Yep, Avs stuck between a rock and a hard place with Kuemper.

Unless they re-sign him now for something in the middle with both parties sharing some of the risks. They won't do it though.
 
On ESPN in the 3rd they said that Kuemper has the highest save % in the league since January 10th. So basically best goalie in the league in 2022.

Also I reserve judgement for after the playoffs but so far, all the new guys have been good. I like 'em all.

There's no chance Sturm costs 3.5M though. If we can get Lehkonen for around what JTC got, and Sturm around what Jost made, then I'll be happy with that.

Sturm has made it known he wants a 3C role and 3C money. He’ll get the low end of that so 3s… I imagine on a team like Seattle.

It’s mind boggling how some of you just want to ditch Kuemper and gamble on the market AGAIN this summer. Remember our goalie woes at the beginning of the season with JJ? Some of you want Fleury or Dreidger? Varlamov again? So in a couple of years are we going to try and get Gru back? How about a few seasons after that, try and get Kuemper to come back here again? This is getting ridiculous

I have to think it's one or the other and he'll take less or more depending on the circumstance. With Kadri gone this summer there's a good chance the #2-4C role will be up for grabs. Plus he's getting tha #3C role on the Avs right now and a team like Seattle doesn't even have room for him with Geekie/Gourde/Wennberg down the middle and Bernier joining the team next season.

I just don't see any team giving him that type of money. He doesn't have the production or the reputation/history in the league to demand that type of money. IMO, his best comparable is someone like Oskar Sundqvist, but he had a 31 pts in 71 game and played very well in their cup run when he signed his deal (4 x 2.75).

Think Sturm should come in at 2-4 yrs x 1.5-2.5 mil.

There is a method behind the madness. If Kuemper sucks in the playoffs, we don't want to sign him. If he wins us a cup, we can't afford to sign him.. thus needing alternatives this summer

I don't think anyone WANTS to ditch Kuemper. Most just seem to be discussing options IN THE EVENT that he prices himself out. For the record I don't want Driedger either but just dropped his name in the hat as someone Sakic will probably consider if he swings and misses in UFA again.

Kuemper was great in the 2019-20 playoffs. Even if he plays poorly this postseason, it's kind of ridiculous to drop him because of one bad playoff run with no better alternatives. If this was last year FA crop with Andersen, Grubs, Bernier, etc. it would be a different story, but there is literally nothing else. If Kuemper is open to it i'd much rather sign him now. If he shits the bed in the playoffs, hope he does better next year because we aren't getting an upgrade on him.
 
Teams may also look and wonder if Kemp was a product of our system, or really deserves elite money.

He wasn't lighting it up before the trade and wasn't early on either until he got into the system.

Grub was a top end goalie for us, got paid and turned to shit in Seattle.

These 3 players should cost around 15M. Kuemper (6M), Nuke (5.2M), Lehks (3.8M).

That leaves 12M to replace Kadri, Bura, Sturm, Helm, Cogliano, Manson, Murray and MacDermid.

Hmm.

I think you can re-up MacDermid, Cogs, Helm (or equivalent) and a Murray replacement for about 1M each. So that 4M there.

Now you have 8M left for a 2C, a 2RW, Sturm and Manson.

Even if you replace JTC for a 1M player, that's...impossible.

Avs also need to buyout EJ and trade Compher. Opens up another $9mil
