I'd be fine going higher, but that would require the Avs getting their 2nd round pick back.

At this point I think the Avs need to be really aggressive and find a long-term solution for their goaltender. Preferably a younger up and comer rather than someone you're hoping turns it around.

FTR I don't think it's a good idea either way.

Avs have too many holes to fill this offseason and limited assets/cap space. Best case scenario is to get another vet on what you hope is a cheap deal for one year and hope like hell you can address the goalie situation better after that.

if the Avs could do it, Id have no problem throwing 8M or more at Oettinger. dude is the real deal. youd solve the goalie problem for the next decade plus.

Hot take, but how Kuemper plays today will decide his future on the Avs. Either he responds to last game by locking it down and closing out the series like a wall, or he puts up another leaky performance. Doesn't even matter if the Avs win or lose, if he has another shaky night, I don't think there's any way that the Avs bring him back

I think a lot of it will still depend on how much money he asks for.

Tbh I think either way, if he asks for more then $5M I dont think Sakic is going to pay him that. It just seems clear that the Avs dont value a starting goaltender up to that kind of money. But especially if Kuemper does shit the bed and we lose whether in the 2nd round or 3rd round due to poor performances from him, Sakic wont give him big money. Now if he ends up being willing to come back for 2-3 years at like ~4M or something, I think Joe probably does that and then will just sell it publically by the regular season numbers he had and the belief he can still be the guy for us.

Personally, at least in terms of UFA options, Fleury would probably be my target. He's once again more of the same and not an actual upgrade on DK or Grubauer, but it would also only be a 1 year commitment, and I think he's going to sign for dirt cheap wherever he ends up because I think more then anything he really does want to chase one more cup at this point.

Like if the options are say Fleury @ 1x2M or Kuemper at 4x5M.... Give me Fleury.

Kuemper in reality has played like a 3-4M goalie all year except a week or two stretch.

I'd rather have Varly for one year than Fleury

Fleury is pretty much done

Even if we don't win this year we'll still be a contender next year, we have to try to find a real goalie.

Offer sheet Oettinger @ 6 and hope Dallas doesn't feel comfortable matching. I kind of hope the Avs go hard and try to find a long-term goalie solution this summer.
I imagine the Stars would match in a heartbeat. But I like the aggressiveness to force their hand now and handicap them cap wise.

I mean, if we can get that 2nd round pick back, offer sheet him a two year deal with a poison pill attached. 7 million average, but have it structured so the last year is 8+ so there's a bit of pressure with the last qualifying offer. Work really hard to get him signed to something reasonable over a long period of time.

My personal preference is just to lockdown a long-term starting goalie rather than cycling through these mid-range starters.

From what I've read, it sounds like they are trying to ditch Bob so they can play Knight. Askarov/Saros may eventually become an option depending on what Nashville wants to do.

Best of luck to them in trying to move Bob’s 4 years, $40M buyout proof contract that includes a NMC. 🤣

Joe Sakic isn't the type of GM to offer sheet a player IMO even though he himself signed an offer sheet with the Rangers.
Do you remember when Sakic signed the offer sheet? People were ready to fall out of buildings in downtown Denver. Happily the buildings were all much shorter back then.

Manson is priority #2 after Nuke to re-sign. He's fit in here so well.

Ehhhh, that's a bad contract waiting to happen though. I'd be very cautious of that deal.

Like if he's willing to do 3x3M to stay with us then fine.

But otherwise, we need a 2C desperately and an entire 2nd line as of right now as well.

I know Compher was the hero tonight but we should find a way to lose his contract. Ben Meyers is going to take his job.

It's not even a matter of losing his contract. We could move him for a 3rd round pick no problem.

That's putting a lot of trust in a rookie to play an important role right away though and moving JTCs 3.5M this summer means not having that freed up cap space in 2023 when Mack is a UFA, Newhook, Byram, and Meyers are all RFAs as well .

IMO if you keep Manson, it probably means you gotta move one of Byram/Girard/Toews.

Tbh if the Avs feel Byram is ready to be Cales partner, perhaps you look at a Toews deal in the summer. They would fetch a kings ransom for him if they went that route. Then the Defense goes to:

Byram - Makar
Girard - Manson
???? - Johnson

I would move Girard before Toews 10 out of 10 times. Get an upgrade on Jack Johnson and we're good to go.

Toews-Makar
Byram-Manson
UFA-Johnson

They'll move Girard before Toews.

Manson is a very good fit but I think he's worth something like 4.5MX4 on the market. He's a righty, he's big, he's physical, can play top 4 minutes, he's a good teammate...

GM's just love those guys.
