Metrics. It bedevils me at my job. Statistics are only one criteria in assessing a player's development. I have to trust MSL's opinion. He interacts with this young player everyday. He can tell by both watching his on-ice performance (in games and practices) and his interpersonal dealings with this important part of the team's and his own future, whether Slafkovsky is being overwhelmed. I'll take his opinion over the army of key board general managers here who probably have never played or managed sport at a professional/elite level.
Some professional athletes don’t play games. From a military standpoint? Yes, it’s a stretch introducing this paradigm, but? Slaf is getting lumped up while a shitbird is making 6m a year. I’d bring Gallagher in the boatswain locker to set his shit straight.

I'd let him go but depends on what Hughes/Gorton think. What would he gain other than racking up points? He's not going to learn anything in terms of the less time and space factor in the NHL though. Maybe he gains a little offensive confidence?
Confidence is a big one.

Also lets stop acting like playing hockey at any level is a negative once youve reached the NHL. Most advocates of the 9 games are now advocates of the 10 minutes a night.

What if he goes and it's the opposite effect?

He doesn't find chemistry with his teammates and doesn't put up points.
We would have much bigger problems if our 1OA NHLer cannot put up points on Junior players.

And we all know the Arizona Coyotes have a stellar reputation for development.
In terms of attacking players every team is better than the Habs. Certainly Arizona. Keller is a stud.

How did that end up affecting Caufield? Because sounds exactly like what happened with Caufield at the world juniors.

I think the player’s association may take umbrage with your direct approach. Effective as it may be.

Points come and go and right now, they are clearly focusing on his ability to perform in the time and space area. Making good decisions with the puck. That's how you build a solid foundation and then he grows offensively later.
It doesn’t seem like they’re focusing on anything right now in terms of his development. You develop those things with reps in game situations which he isn’t currently getting enough of with so few minutes. I have faith in new management, but the honeymoon phase is almost over and I’m not going to pretend these guys aren’t capable of being boneheads just like ghosts of the pasts.

You would just Love it wouldn't you lmao.
I’ve taken the biggest possible L on Slafkovsky when they drafted with the 1OA the guy who’s biggest career achieve was putting two goals on Kazakhstan and looking really fresh against Canada. So don’t you worry.

They did draft and develop Keller and Chychrun.
Nevertheless...what's good for them and their player, doesn't mean it's good for the Montreal Canadiens and there's.

They sent their 1st round pick from a few years ago Viktor Soderstrom to the WJC's after he made their team.

He's still toiling away in the AHL.

Would we?

I don't know...we take a player out of the NHL where despite not meeting the point totals fans need to see to feel secure, and pluck him into a tournament with guys he hasn't played with and just expect him to kill it?

Doesn't always work out that way.

Viktor Soderstrom
Barret Hayton
P-O Joseph
Dylan Strome
Brandon Perlini

Might say otherwise...but it wasn't really to shit on the Coyotes, what's good for the Coyotes and Guenther isn't necessarily what's good for the Habs and Slafkovsky, was more of my point.

Well that's kind of my point.

Whether he produces or not, is irrelevant to the type of NHL player he's going to become.

We shouldn't read too much into it if he produces and we shouldn't read too much into if he doesn't.

It's an isolated 3 week tournament.

Scoring pts isn't the main reason why Slaf should go there. He should go there to play a big role, get a ton of ice time, and gain confidence.

You can list any and every team’s busts. But Arizona has been better at developing attacking players than the Habs. So I wouldn’t point to them and laugh.

On the WJC topic I am agnostic and ambivalent. You make a good point that there is uncertainty but if you drop eg Suzuki into any team you’d figure he can get cooking. That’s what good players do, they cook. If Slaf is too raw to get going against a bunch of junior players then it’ll reflect poorly on Slaf. Maybe it’s better to keep him insulated and isolated and avoid that sort of exposure.

His point totals are one thing but his general playmaking is and has always been the concern. Hopefully he has adjusted to NHL speeds and can be force fed big minutes.

Otherwise, it is exhausting to see the Habs make the same mistake three prospects in a row. And it certainly doesn’t look like Gorton knows how to draft and develop wingers.
