He really needs to be more aware of where he is on the ice, he reached/leaned in yesterday and looked Lindros-like when he got flattened by what was a clean hit. Pacioretty went through the same thing when getting used to the speed of the NHL. I wouldn't mind seeing him with Monahan for a few games because there isn't much of a chance to create offense with Evans.

He could get reck in the AHL but if you have to work on awareness doing it at a lower speed might help… if concussions are part of the development the end result might not be what we expected…
I don’t know why people are so adamant that he has to be in the NHL right now. How is he suppose to grow as an offensive player getting around 10 minutes a night playing with 4th liners? We have the AHL option which a team like Seattle could only wish they had with Wright right now. Why aren’t we using it? I feel like he’s being mishandled worse than Galchenyuk and Kohtkaniemi regardless of if some people disagree with me because they’re super fans of Slaf.

Do you really believe that posters on this board know more about hockey than any of HuGo, MSL, Hughes, Bergevin and Ducharme lol? If you actually believe that then you are completely delusional.

This doesn't mean that we can't criticize them or we are sometimes right when they are wrong. It just means that there is an element of luck in almost every decision that they make and even the layman can be right with random chance or a coin flip scenario. Obviously there are skill gaps between these professionals but these gaps are much smaller than the skill gap between them and HFBoards posters.

There are some very smart posters but every one of them severely lack the experience necessary to thrive at the highest level. I have seen so many terrible narratives and group think truisms/mythology manifest themselves on these boards over the 25 years that I have been here that it is entirely laughable to refer to forums such as this as being even remotely on a level playing field with NHL executives/coaches.

I know some posters will cry that I am using appeal to authority to marginalize their opinions but that is not true at all. I have no problem criticizing decisions made by more qualified individuals, I have a problem with people using group think dynamics to invalidate individuals who are in fact more qualified and informed than any one individual in the the group that is attacking them.

I was all for sending Slaf down at the start but was ok in deferring trust to HuGo as there are so many important variables that neither I or any other poster on this board has access to. Their methodology seems to be working just fine as Slaf has greatly improved even if I thought he took a step back against Philly with some blatant puck chasing in the dzone.

I will be the first to criticize them for any blatant mistakes that they may make with Slaf but I do so knowing that they are also aware of the risks associated with every decision and that it just is not possible to be right every time.
We would have at least 1 Stanley Cup if I was GM in the early 2000’s.

Inferiority complex. Slaf cannot be good if he is not in the NHL, somehow. Also its just blind cheerleading for HuGo at this point.

We hear that the AHL is slower and somehow now he will get hit the same in the AHL.

There hasn't been an ounce of logic in this thread since we picked him.

Has it been confirmed if Slaf has received a concussion from playing in the NHL as of yet?
Nothing confirmed but when you lay on the ice trying to recalibrate your brain from being in a dream state, and then start trying to stretch out your jaw like that..
Odds are..

Now, not every concussion is equal, not everybody's reaction to concussions is equal either
Could be back in a couple days np, or sometimes the "post-concussion syndrome" keeps a few people out a bit longer, always depends on the individual

Personally I think he'll be fine, but I could see him miss 1 game as a precaution

Oh, this a gem! So, Slaf is supposed to hone his obvious offensive skills with? Drum roll please. Evans and Pez? On the 4th line? At 18 years old? He is going to get lumped up.

I'm his biggest supporter and even I'm getting a teeny bit worried at this point. I can't even fathom thinking what's going through the mind of the two notorious anti-slaf posters. Seriously I hope you two can sleep at night you must be very worried and I genuinely hope you guys will get through this rookie season sane

He's not ready as of now. The question is whether continuing to play him in a 4th line role will get him ready by the time he is in his Draft +3 or 4th year.

There is no downside to a stint in the AHL.

There are no anti-Slaf posters, but the handling of him has been abysmal, but because it’s Marty we act like it’s sone mast plan. There is no good reason to play him ~10 mins in the prime development years. It’s what you’d expect you from Dinosaurs like Therrien and Julien, if they were doing it, we’d be all over them.

At this stage in Slaf’s development, playing is the most important thing. He should be thrown ice time at every opportunity. Never should he be playing 10 mins a night, there is literally no upside to this approach. None.

It’s just as much on HuGo. They chose to put him in the NHL. And if the coach doesn’t trust the player, they should step in and force MSL to play him or send him down to the AHL.

They have the final say at the end of the day.

If he asked to go play in Laval I would send him there immediately. But he seems to be working hard to keep his spot in the NHL, so why change anything as long as the Habs are doing well?
