Lol Slaf is not ready the NHL at all. People who thinks he shines at this moment are clueless. The only reason why we talk positive compared to the others wingers is because he's the 1st overall of the montreal canadien and the new toy.

He has 0 elite assets , He gets bumped like Jake Evans does and Jake Evans sadly learned the hard way.

He's not NHL ready , perhaps the AHL is no better , But atleast in the AHL he won't get outplayed and have 17-18min of icetime.

Like I said if this thread was about Anderson , everyone would be shatting on him instead.

He's not miracle and he's not the winger than Suzuki and Caufield needs and that's a guarantee.
It appears you do not know much about hockey or you just came here to push an agenda.

Just bugs me he was described as some genetic freak who was going to be mini Jagr and dominate physically.

Seems it’s not in his blood. Look at the Tkachuks or Lucic or even Jackeye. They’re young and all play solid the moment they got to the league.

Slaf looks like he doesn’t want to play a physical game at all.
Funny, I thought the most impressive part of his game to date has been his willingness to engage in physical contests for the puck whether along the boards or off the forecheck. He still has a lot to improve upon: defensive awareness; anticipation off the rush and learning to shed his habit of playing with one hand on the stick. But I have seen no indication that Slafkovsky shies away from contact. He's 18. He will have his good games and he will have his bad ones. But so far, the good has outweighed the bad. But, if that balance changes, then sending him to the AHL is always an option. Until then, it would appear that the team's management, his coaches and most fans want him on the team. So until then, you, and the rest of us, will have to endure watching this non-generic freak play for the Canadiens.

You seem hell bent on Slafkovsky being above being anywhere but the NHL. Just judging from your posts, I’m assuming it’s because you were a big fan before he was drafted and just want to be able to watch him. This kids a project. Playing 10-12 minutes a night isn’t necessarily the best game plan. And I’ve read you think he’s a physical specimen. Last nights hit wasn’t a blindside hit. It was a hit where a player was vulnerable because he wasn’t aware when he should’ve been and also didn’t make a decision at a NHL pace.
Don’t bother, he’ll get a point in the next 5 games and he’ll be telling us all how wrong we are. It’s an Infinite loop.

You can call it what you want, it’s a blindside hit according to the NHL rulebook. “check delivered on a player who is not aware of the impending hit”. Now you can say Slaf should have been aware, but that’s not the definition... It’s not a suspendable hit but you write down the number for the next time you play that team, you return the favour.
Nobodies writing down the number in Rossi. The coaching staff will be watching that and telling him to keep his head up. It wasn’t a dirty play.

For those of you that are concerned about Slaf getting hit or not being aware of the opposition around him, do you remember how Max Pacioretty got hit in his first season in the NHL? He got rocked many times but he learned from it and so will Slafkovsky. You have to realize that he is just 18 and although he is a big kid, he is getting used to the speed of the game and he is also getting used to his own body and he will learn. In two-three years he will be a beast out there, have patience, it's still early.

Yeah Pacioretty learned from it and became Casper The Ghost

I'm not a fan of the ice time or where he's being played in the lineup. That said, he's been improving significantly since the start of the year, so his confidence isn't taking a hit and clearly they're working hard with him. He's also getting chances almost every shift, which is better than over half the roster. The danger though is going through multiple games without scoring, even with the best environment, it's not a good thing for his confidence.

Posts like this are what I hate about HF boards. You took my comparison of the two and make a cheap remark just to be a smart ass. Max Pacioretty although not one of my favorites was a wrecking ball early on in his career but he stopped being that type of player after the hit on Letang and the broken neck he suffered. I was only making a comparison based on Slafkovsky's inexperience and using Patch as a comparison.

That’s the only thing? Just one thing?

Maybe. But sending him to Laval will hardly be a boost to his confidence.

tbf, it is true though.

He got rocked too much and became a perimeter player.

I agree.

I'm a fan of sending his ass to the OHL for at least 1 year.

Reassess next year.

I would sent him to Laval if you can’t play him 16-18min and he isn’t dominant for the 10min he is playing there no use to burn a year of ELC, FW usually hit there prime 24-26yo,more than 9 game s burn a year of ELC and I think that if he play the 41 games he will be eligible for UFA at 25yo…
Sending him down might not be great for confidence but having your every move analyzed while just try to keep you head above water in the NHL isn’t any better.
Send both Slaf and Xhekaj down have them dominate in the AHL, play the tank squad bring them up after the deadline or once we drop some dead weight…

That's always the case here. And I guess in other teams. Sending down a player to AHL. It should be understood and not a big fuss about it. Can we just agree that ok: there is bad point in this process and accept it as a normal way to progress for the player? But because this is a board, everybody become an expert, I'm smarter than you, blablabla, lot of messages exchange, lot of big ego, etc. Can we all let our big ego in the closet?

6' 3" 238 pounds at 18 years old; yes he's a genetic freak

Right now, when will it be? Will you say the same thing in 3 years like we did with KK?
If I read one more f***ing comparison to the way KK was treated. I'm going postal!

Slaf isn't being treated anywhere near the same way that KK, Galchenyuk or anyone of our other young players were treated in the past. Agree or disagree about whether he should be playing in the NHL or not. But please tell me you can see the obvious difference in the way he's being treated. In comparison to others, under previous management.

A few weeks ago MSL said that if a player needs to score to have confidence he's not thinking about it the right way since scoring is a rare occasion over the entire length of a game in most games.
