Pretty big red flag for a guy like Wright to not only fall, but get passed up by another center.

In a vacuum, sure. But Jersey didn't need or want another C, they're already stacked up there. They chose the best D instead. Arizona chose the flashy center with a higher offensive ceiling instead of the more complete package. I'm assuming they're doing every little thing possible to put an exciting team in front of their fans.

So he has 5 points in his last 7 games (TOI of 13:26), if he can keep that up for the rest of the season he would finish with 48 points which is a very solid rookie year. And since his TOI is likely to continue to rise as the season progresses it's certainly doable.

If 5/7 is his new production rate for the rest of the games... 48 pts checks out :thumbu:. 15-20 goals? That would be a good 1st season

He’s got no identifiable hockey IQ and is a bad playmaker. So far, anyway.

I doubt you are watching the games if you really do believe what you just said.

I can’t really tell if those aspects are being directly addressed or personally dealt with or if he’s just getting more used to the NHL game and will hit a wall soon. I hope to see more dangles and plays and (MSL’s fav word) reads from him as the season progresses.

You're like a grandfather watching his 1yr old grandson wobble and blather when trying to walk and talk. And you're telling your son "I don't know, son, I don't think he's going to pan out".

The reigning 1OA being compared to a toddler explains a lot about the mismatched expectations here

Were you as soft and easy on Kotkaniemi?

I want someone who will be a top player on an actually contending team. What do you want?

Also outpacing his Liiga totals.

We must be at the nexus of the universe
I think this just goes to show that no one, not the even the experts, can accurately project a kid's developmental path. Kakko dominated Liiga in his rookie season yet has done nothing to date (the Rangers could be blamed for his stagnation). We need to be patient with this kid; when I watch him I see someone who just oozes skill and potential, and it's exciting to see.

I think the comparison he was making was with you and the grandfather.

At least that's how I read it.

I think we all want that.

I also think most of us understands that was never going to happen TODAY.

I hate agreeing with Expat but I must agree that the discrepancy in opinion between first year Kotkaniemi and Slafkovsky is pretty funny.

Especially considering one is a #1 OA.

Kotkaniemi had a good rookie season. He just never got better.

But i don’t really get why would we need to talk about him to compare Slaf, they’re not the same kind of player, at all.

They are both high pick forwards that played too early in the NHL.

Im talking about the reaction of some people towards KK and their impatience vs their patience with Slaf. Hint: its a size thing and they wanted Tkachuk.

They are not the same players for sure though, Slaf is closer to NHL ready than KK probably is today lol.

I didn’t realise I’m an untouchable here. If that’s the case, fine — I’ll take a break from this community. Cheers.
I just dont want to get roasted for a week straight because I agreed with you on something, happened early this year lmao.

It’s must likely because of where the team is right now, most understand that they are not close to be a winning team yet and the kids actually get development time. KK was brought up in a different time and different mentality.

Plus we can’t bring up the impatience of KK in his last year here to compare to Slaf.

Slaf played 24 games, would be weird to ask more of him, he’s showing good improvement.

This kid has to go to the pressbox right now. He has to stay there until he learns a simple little lesson. Keep your head up! Last night he was about a half second away from from getting decapitated by Watson. He looked up just in time to avoid contact. If that was the only incident we could see some semblance of awareness. On several occasions he carried the puck behind Ottawa's net and threw the puck behind him. Every single time he turned his head to look behind him. If anyone had been coming the other way he would have been levelled. After practice I would skate him around the net until he could keep his head up 100 times in a row. He would benefit sitting in the pressbox with a coach who could talk him through situational awareness. He still has not adjusted to the smaller ice where guys are on you in a heartbeat. This kid is a big part of the future. Protect him now.

I think my (sarcastic) mismatched expectations aren't too off of the ones you've put onto him. You're using a magnifying glass but have no idea what you're looking at. And your hyper-critical analysis is about as worthless as my opinion on Kotkaniemi.

Your allowed to have differing opinions, others are allowed to disagree with those opinions as well,

The gushing over KK in his first year was the same, a common thread was "once he sorts out his balance issues he'll be a force", but three years later and he still hadn't. KK never showed the type of growth in his game over the season we've seen with Slaf. Who at least in my eyes I've seen noticable improvements from the first 5 games to now in physicality, puck protection and confidence with the puck.

You also keep comparing using him as 10V to justify the opinion, except it was made explicitly clear leading into the draft that there was no true 10A this year and that we'd be getting a top 5 player in any other year.
