Not sure about his hockey iQ but some people were questioning his real life iQ and I find that so strange.
The guy is so self aware and can even laugh at himself while showing he is a confidant person and you can tell he knows how good he can be. The fact he even said that he needed an assist after wright scored or he would be labeled a *bust* just shows how mature he is and that he's not afraid to fail and says things as they are. How many first overall picks would refer to themselves (even jokingly) or even utter the words *bust* into existence.
This guys attitude is one of his strong points , I can see how he woo'ed people at the interviews

Slaf is smart. What kid these days leaves 'the family nest' this early, young, ... and survives?

Not sure why anyone would think he needs an artificial WJC confidence boost...he's not lacking confidence.

He's lacking exposure and experience at the highest level, that's what he's getting now.

I guess you did not get the memo.
Repeat after me: "WJC ... you say no more."
Otherwise watch your back, WiFi might be coming. :D

He needs to play at this level.

I wasn't saying that about KK or Chucky, but for Slaf it's pretty clear.
For KK and Chucky, I never felt like the coaching staff were all that interested in playing them.

It felt like there was a disconnect between what Management wanted and what the coaching staff wanted.

I don't have that same feeling with Slafkovsky.

KK and Chucky should have played at least another year outside the NHL. Chucky just to give him more time to heal up (and that made a difference later) and KK so he could see more games. Slaf just needs games at this level, his progression is self-apparent.

Seems to have chemistry w Anderson

Yes when Anderson shows up. Watching him last night was Anderson at his best.

That play on the Anderson goal was nice.

Fans who don't watch as many games as they should will look at his size and shot but his vision and play making is very underrated from what I can see. This kid has high hockey IQ IMO.

It don't matter in the end cause KK and Chucky were not that good. Better development management gets them to their potential faster but their potential was not as high as we pegged them at.

Scouting and Drafting is more important than Development. You got to pick the right guy to develop well or you end up wasting time on someone who doesn't have the potential you think they do.

Target guys who have size/skating/skill, good hockey IQ, and are obsessed at improving and addressing any flaws. This should be the scouting strategy. Then when you have guys with real potential, you can help facilitate their development

Suzuki was developed well, development makes a tremendous difference. What is hard in development is the decision-making early in the process, I think it's preferable to be more prudent than not. Wings are a good demonstration of that.

Hopefully Slaf can start scoring (a lot!) and Anderson can start picking up assists on his goals.

Anderson has 8 goals in 26 gmaes, good for a 25 goals in 82 games pace. But he only has 2 assists and 10 points, for a 32 points per 82 games pace. We need Anderson to be able to pick up his point totals if he's going to be traded for a 1st. Sucks that Monahan is out on that front (though it's good for helping us move closer to a top 10/5 pick).

Anderson won’t be dealt unless some team massively overpays - HuGo’s focus has been on trying to get the team bigger without sacrificing pace

Suzuki worked hard and got to where he is at today because of it. A good draft pick by the Knights and Habs didn't really do much to develop him. He knew what he had to work at on his own. He's that smart.

Wings are focusing on scouting and drafting. Picking guys they feel they can develop cause they have real potential, not hope potential. Expecting a development team to develop hope potential is ridiculous. The kid has to have skill, worth ethic, and the IQ to comprehend how to overcome the development challenges. You can't teach that.

I really don't know what to think about this kid

He looked like easily one of our best players last night, I was hoping MSL threw him out to start 3v3 because he looked ready to feast. But at the same time, he still left himself open to get rocked a few times. So he's playing really well, but he's still not making the corrections he needs to make.

I see the flashes though and it's possible he ends up even better than Suzuki and Caufield.

Still not making the corrections he needs to make? Age 18 and 23 games. When will he ever learn? Age 18 and 55 games? :sarcasm:

He's doing just fine. How high can he go? We don't don't know so enjoy the show cause if MSL can take him there, nobody can

He plays a lot better on the D side of the puck than I expected for a rookie. He's pretty tenacious with his stick on the forecheck or when pressuring guys. He's not an Anderson that will impose his will on you physically (yet at least... he is 18 after all) but he reminds me a lot of first-year-he-was-here Armia in that regard.
