I’m gonna stay away from this thread for the next couple of days because the hot takes will be coming in hot.

When we had the first overall pick, i was expecting Habs fans to have patience with the player that will be selected. God was i wrong. Lafreniere should thank heaven we haven’t selected him first overall because he would be put in the same categorie as Daigle by our shitty fans.

We are a terrible fan base.

1. It sucks that the first first overall the Habs get in 40 years is probably in the bottom 10 of all those drafts.
2. The first overall selection still holds the most value in a draft, there was no point in selecting him first, trade down if you wanted him.
3. He sucks for a top 15 pick so far.
4. Yakupov looked good in his first year.
1. Yeah it sucks. That's our luck lately, Galchy, JK and Slaf. Even if everybody in that list do fairly well, they are NOT generational talent.
2. I would have picked Wright. Yet, trading down to get him when the idea was that he was going No2 anyway, what kind of piece do you get to just drop 1 pick when everyboyd knew there was no generational talent? Nothing worth mentioning.
3. He's having trouble adapting. Yet, he played with Armia and Pitlick. Have you watched every top 15 pick of this year?
4. Great. I guess it proves the point that looking good in their 1st year might mean absolutley nothing.

Fluke Olympics against ECHL level goaltending where everything that he threw at the net went in. It really f***ed us, as Bobrov and Gorton couldn’t resist.

Was shocked we didn’t pick Wright. Time will tell but Slaf doesn’t even look like a Top 5 pick, nevermind 1OV.
People talk as if we were the only team who had him high. Jersey wanted him at 2. McKenzie list finished with him No1. This was NOT a JK scenario. Habs did decide not to go with the obvious pick. We will see in 3-4 years how right or wrong they were.

So I guess this is what we're gonna do with this player now eh? Had hoped it would take at least ONE regular season game before he became the lightning rod for doomers but I guess that's not going to be the case lmao

All I can really say is that if you can't see the upside here I truly don't know what to tell you. Truly baffling to me that there's so much anxiety around this player before his rookie season has even begun. It's just very strange in the context of no 1st overall pick being an instant success since Hischier and the fact we all knew going into this draft there was no generational talent available.

Jk was ranked 4th and he went 3rd.

Not sure how many times that management and the coach need to repeat that they drafted him for the player he’ll be at 23-24 years old.

This fanbase thinks a rebuild takes 6 months and that prospects should all score 4 goals in their first game like Matthews. It’s pathetic.

He scored against good hockey countries at the Olympics, BUT those countries didn't have their A, B or C squads there lol. Then at the World Championships he pretty much fed on the bottom feeder countries with next to no hockey programs.

I'm terrified he's gonna struggle to produce in the AHL😅 If he does then that should be grounds enough for Molson to fire Hugo next offseason :scared::scared::scared:

Some of you people need to take a 3 year vacation from hockey if you can't even give a prospect a f***ing pre season before youre slitting your wrists and shitting in every nook and cranny of this board.
I have all the time in the world for Beck and Mesar. Slaf is......bad. May as well just admit that reality. Just like it was obvious rather early on that Kotkaniemi was similarly overrated,

There's such a thing as toxic positivity too. We've dealt with a lot of that for a long time, and it allowed this team to remain mediocre because ownership had no incentive to improve.

nah. It’s not a fair comparison. The problem is it feels like the old management, smarter than thou energy, and we ended up convincing ourselves wright isn’t the guy. If we drafted wright and he struggled we would still see the potential, there’s just a lot of flags watching slaf’s game. 3-4 years, sounds like they were drooling over potential, and forgot about the sure bet.

slaf taking a beating from fans is the reflection of management. Not him. I hope he grows leaps and bounds, but I don’t see a 1st line winger. He can’t generate chances by himself and there’s just too much talent in the league.

I feel lafreniere being the consensus pick we would have patience because everyone seemed to see ‘it’. maybe I’m wrong.

If you don’t see any red flags about Wrigth’s game, i don’t know what to tell you.

It's not toxic positivity. Lol it's putting things in perspective. I don't know what Slafkovsky is going to be. Cooley was my guy. But there's a difference of "Slaf is gonna bust" to "Slaf needs to improve his defensive positioning".

One is just a shit hot take off of nothing and the other is an assessment of his current game that obviously needs refinement.

woah man relax... dont fall in love with a prospect just because of the draft position, you gotta analyse these players separatly and see their value.

Right now he needs a ton of work and its a fact.

Drasaitl was a 4th overall pick, theres a pretty big discrepancy in value between a 1oa and a 4oa, no matter what year you think about.
No.. there's not! Simple as that. In a year with a McDavid/Matthews sure, there's a huge gap.. otherwise, the top 5, even top 10 in many drafts can be interchangeable. So you're wrong here.

1. It's way too early to make that assessment.
2. You're take here is ridiculous, he would have gone at 2 to NJ more than likely.
3. Great job on your 2 game assessment.. I can't wait to hear more.
4. Who cares!

Great observations as always @Mrb1p... Just great!

Yes, I'm aware he needs work. I don't care where anyone is drafted.

The problem is the wrist slitting doom and gloom and overreaction to every little thing.

Anyone expecting a finished product is a victim of their own expectations that they acquired on their own, not from the player, the organization or even Bob McKenzie scouts.
