Wdm im in my feelings?
Beats me...the post you responded too wasn't meant to you, you just took it that way.

Ive literally been called stupid more than once because I said Slaf chilled out and probably gained a few pounds of fat in August. I dont feel targeted, Ive been targeted, like anyone that has had a single doubt about Slafkovsky.

The echo chamber has been insane around here.
I've never said anything about your takes on Slaf other than they were premature based on the rookie tournament.

Again, you caught feels no reason.

I think you are suffering from confirmation biais on that one ahah. Let us wait for the first NHL games before drawing any conclusion.

We all want him to succeed here. :)
Confirmation bias?

I've seen him play for a total of maybe 1 game cumulative.

I have no bias lol just I understand why the Habs drafted him.

Some fans: We need to be patient with Slaf, maybe send him to the AHL if he needs it. I know it's rare but it might have to happen.

Other fans: He didn't score in the rookie tournament, so he's now Yakupov incarnate and is destined to be the next Patrick Traverse.

The duality of Habs fandom never ceases.

I think he COULD play in the NHL right away, but I don't think he would be an impact player this year. Playing at a lower level could allow him to grow his game and have a much bigger impact when he makes the big team.
I agree. Let him get big minutes in Laval’s top 6 and PP and see what he can do. The only way I’m starting him in Montreal is if he dominates in pre-season and we’re committed to playing him next to Suzuki-Caufield.

That's awesome, when I became a a hard-core gymmer in Uni I felt so much better physically and mentally.

But yeah even at 10-12 hours a week in the gym I couldn't get shredded. Curse these fat genes.
You can't get shredded without altering your diet. You can train your abs all day long, but they will just get harder underneath fat and the fat layer is what you will see.

You need to lose body fat to become shredded. A friend I had when I was much younger -- who competed in body sculpture competitions, would turn to salad and tuna and loads of water to get to the percentage body fat he needed for the competition.

Wasn't necessarily healthy either, but it definitely worked (boring diet as hell, as well).

I tried to alter my diet, but the amount I would of had to cut would have been horrible in terms of diet an probably unhealthy.

I naturally am on the fatter side even going for the diet my shredded friends did for a long period of time I couldn't do it. I would of had to cut so hard that I would have hated my life and prbly be malnourished.

I did manage to go from fat to fit, so that's still a huge improvement.

I have every reason to trust the decision-makers in place (unless they’d give me reason to no longer do so) and right now, I’m perfectly happy not having an opinion either way as I trust that they have enough bright hockey minds to make the best decision.

In general, we all have a certain apprehension with respect to any player entering the NHL at 18, for any considerable time so I understand where some of us have reticences.

I mean, unless you really think Slaf is going to REALLY benefit his development by being in the NHL then he should be in the AHL. Why start burning his ELC when its clear the Habs aren't aiming for the playoffs?
He's NHL ready IMO. I'd be disappointed if he didn't play this year. From the videos I've seen the kid is strong and he's fast. I honestly haven't been this excited about a prospect since Saku.

He's NHL ready due to his size and strength.

The question is: Ultimately, would it be in his best interest (and ours) for him to spend minimum of 6 months-1 year in the AHL, honing and building his confidence and skillset?

How do you know? Have you stood next to him?

He's tall but slender. I'd believe 215, but zero chance he's 238. I think someone in the Mtl media put that out and people ran with it.

Look at luke kuechly or dk metcalf; they're both the same height and weight with similar bmi... its pretty obvious that Slaf is a lot lighter (which is a good thing for an nhl player).
Having watched his training videos…. The guy has his weight in his legs. He’s big.

It he keeps up with the NHL’s worst roster in the ongoing training camp is the main question.

If yes, then he has earned a shot to see if he can produce at the NHL level with top9 ice time. If no, then straight to AHL so he can be the main man.

There is no wrong answer if Slaf shows he can keep up. It’s only if he has a shaky camp and the Habs insist on retaining him to play garbage minutes next to Jake Evans that we should get worried.

and learning to not put his precious noggin into dangerous positions.

That said, the one downside to AHL vs NHL is Marty Saint Louie > Habs AHL coach Houle.

Also, there are more goons in the AHL.... so Slaf needs to keep his head up regardless.

This too.

For literally no reason other than people are impatient and want to see the new shiny toy.

Definitely more goons in the AHL but there are definitely way more agile and faster players in the NHL that can clean his clock

A year in the AHL wouldn't hurt him. Rushing him to the NHL is the last thing I want. I'd give him an opportunity to make the team but if he's not ready send him to Laval. I think that this management team won't rush him if he isn't ready.

How many 1OA have impact their first season? The real question is whether it’s better to have that 1OA struggle in the NHL, dominate in junior, or play AHL. I doubt anyone knows.

Let him play this season and be patient. He never had a dominating offensive season before. We all hope he will develop his potential but why send him to the AHL to be forced in a fight with a goon?
