Through development, training, eating, and just general comfort that will come with settling into the NHL, his body will even out and he and the trainers will find that "just right" spot for him. Right now he focused on building his upper body and adding strength. That should level out over these next few months.

They'll work with his frame and figure out where he should gain/lose over the next few years. He could end up anywhere from 225-245.. also taking into account his frame, age, speed, etc. He's definitely not a finished product at this point, and looks to be on the right track physically/work ethic wise.

I think you're making too big a deal honestly
This is what 6"4 people are SUPPOSED to look like technically lol, anytime you see a 6"4 and they dont weigh 210+ , then my friend, you are too skinny/lanky for that frame
A huge reason this guy went top 3 in a draft IS the fact he took the effort to grow into his body with training, where as 9/10 a kid like this is possibly a little lazier and take several more years to "fill out"

Once you reach the state Slaf is in, and maintains discipline, it's not like hes going to be adding 10 lbs every year
You reach a certain target weight, and you hover around there as long as possible
Will he reach something like 250 at age 30, tremendously possible, but his body will have gotten prepared for it over the years, and he will be even more of a handful to deal with AT that age and weight
This kids not going to be becoming a 300 lbs problem here tho..

I mean I can show you the difference.. I'm 6'4" and by the age of 21 weighed 330lbs of McDonald's (not muscle).. now I'm 36 and weigh 209lbs.. so I've seen every point from high to low. I was down to 187lbs at one point, but just looked far too lanky and it didn't feel right. My personal comfort zone is the 207-215 mark.

So you're definitely right in saying that at his height, being a professional athlete, etc.. he should look like this and should find that comfort zone in time.

Ok but Juraj is 18 and will presumably keep growing. The others were already fully grown

a football player and hockey player is different. At some point, he does become too heavy. I get he’s our 1st overall and we want to be positive (and I am l) but I wouldn’t want him to get any heavier.

Only 4-5 players at this weight in the league and most are defensemen. I get he’s a freak but there have been physical freaks before too. He’s not the first
The only difference is the emphasis on physical fitness and the gene pool. Hockey is a 30-40 second sport and its mostly less intense than Football (Save for full on downwing sprints and corner/front net battles. ).

Football players have even higher BMIs and are still running 40 yard dashes under 5 seconds. What youre seeing is a physical freak, not someone that should lose weight lol.
Agree and adding on a bit, this is one thing I've started to notice when people who are predominantly hockey fans discuss players' height/weight etc. I don't think hockey fans in general really appreciate that the NHL is not getting the cream of the crop in terms of raw athleticism, and that's why there are all these "rules" like anything over 225 being too heavy at 6'3 which don't make any sense for actual physical freaks. This is a sport where guys like Mitch Marner or Johnny Gaudreau can be superstars, the cutoff point for athletic ability in hockey is very low and it doesn't select for the best pure athletes the way other sports do, so we shouldn't hold the "rules" that apply to a median NHLer against a genuinely gifted athlete.

Like you said, The NFL is full of DE/OLBs that are about his height and 250-280lb who are still incredibly fast and agile. What we're seeing here is the kind of athlete that would be a college pass rusher/tight end right now if he were American. At 6'3 238 he's still visibly skinny and remains one of the fastest players on the ice among his peers, Pat Maroon at the same height and weight is lumbering and slow. He's just unique as a pure athlete and it's OK for him to weigh more than eg. Max Pacioretty.

Look at his father, taller and not fat at all. I have zero worry that Slafkovsky will have weight problems. It's just the way he's built. I only see positive in the fact he's a monster. He will become a very unique kind of player, skilled powerforward.

Slafkovsky will have his 9 games, no doubt about that. This guy is already built to play in NHL... he don't skate like Kotkaniemi, he is sooo much ready than KK.

I'd rather see Slafkovsky to play in PP with players like Suzuki and Caufield than a AHL team.... Slafkovsky is a ready body and ready mentality, for sure.

Eller having a bad hockey sense is a myth on this forum pushed by people who didn't watch the games.

The reason that Eller stopped passing the puck for a few years is that he was constantly playing on lines with players like Bourque who didn't know how to shoot the puck.

The reality is Eller has had no trouble passing when playing with legitimate NHLers on his wing.
I was watching every single game at the time. His hockey sense was no bueno in my view

Maybe 215 max.. the nhl has been known to embellish size. Ovie is not 250, and Slaf is definitely not 238. Ffsat DK Metcalf.. hes wayyyy bigger than slafkovsky and he's 235.
LOL at Ovie being 215. A good friend of mine met him personally when his nephew(Brett Connolly) won a cup with Washington and my buddy Dan flew to one of the cup parties. He told me that Ovie was a monster, and looked more like an NFL player than an NHLer. 250 is where I'm sticking. He is a genetic freak and has played a physical and skilled sniper game for so many years without much in the way of injury, he is a freak and hopefully, Slaf is built the same way. All of y'all shouldn't get freaked out by the kids weight, there are so many valuable intangibles in the game of hockey that never show up on the scoresheet but they definitely contribute the outcome. P.S, who can be our next Corey Perry?

He's definitely not slow. I think the reason people are thinking that is that his strides look kind of... clumsy, but it doesn't take a lot of them for him to get where he needs to go, so he doesn't look like the conventional NHL fast skater type.

My larger issue with this game was the same thing I see from him every game, which is one absolutely brilliant play followed by 4000 bad decisions the rest of the game. He absolutely has the talent and skills to dominate but the hockey sense is Lars Eller bad as of right now.

Eric Lindros. No matter how big you are, you have to be careful in the NHL.
I agree. He makes poor decisions, often.

Amen! I watched the Caps cup run and Lars was definitely a very big part of that success. a very good player indeed. The Bergevin era was certainly not known for its player development but no one suffered greater than Larry Eller. Trotz had him on the ice late in every period when stress set into games, Lars was always sent over the boards when the team needed safety/preservation.

You mean the others guys are going to learn to not head hunt him because you actually end up hurt if you try that on Slaf, right?

I mean, it's not even a joke, 6'2'' 200 Berzolla ended up hurt! trying to Scott Stevens Slaf. He thought he had the highlight of the game. His name was made. He was going to destroy the #1 pick.

Yet, he's the one getting hurt. I mean, it was an instant meme. And the call by the play by play guy was brilliant.

"Slafkovsky meet a wall, and the wall crumbles"
Honestly I can only think of Seider as a potential threat for Slaf physically. Maybe Reaves but he plays 8 minutes a night

With all due respect to you(I I don't know you from a hole in the wall, by the way), I will take a "fat" 37-year-old 50-goal scorer any day of the week. You kids, tsk.tsk tsk.
Never said otherwise.. and I am no kids. Jagr/Ovechkin are freak of nature. They are cyborg. They never break.
