While he did not look slow, his weight is concerning. 238 is too heavy. Should be 225-230.

Look at the picture of him.. where's he gonna lose weight?

You just reminded me of how impressive MaxPac was earlier. He was a tough player and a physical player. Impressive how he became a legit soft space sniper, which probably gave him more years and was a good career decision.

The Letang hit really calmed him down.
In an interview Patches explained while he was recovering ftom the Chara hit, he watched a lot of hockey, and what he realized was that those players who were the best scorers, with the longest careers, played a perimeter game, and he decided to emulate that type of game on his return.

Just watched Buffalo game. Slaf is special talent. Those top 3-4 picks, doubt they was a wrong one. It boils down to what your team needs and how player reacts in your city. Jersey wanted right shot high end defenseman why Nemec went second. Slaf great talent +personality played role why Habs took him. Cooley, Wright #1 centers still have tons of value.
I don't agree with that statement. At the top of the draft, most teams go BPA with centers and D being premium positions (meaning take the C or D over a winger if all things are close to equal). NJ also wanted Slaf but we got him. Nemec was #2 on NJ's list.

If he can skate adequately at 238 then it's not a problem.

He's only 18 years old... He'll probably reach 250 in his prime lmao
Byfuglien played at 275 lbs and could still skate well. Ovie's listed at 238 lbs but many in hockey will tell you he's likely over 250 lbs. Slaf's simply a very big kid who can play the game. It's why so many have referred to him as a unique player. He just turned 18 in March and may not be finished growing (or at least filling out). His family members are huge.

Any news why they took him out of the rookie games? Concussed?
I'd rather they didn't play him in any of these games. He's going to camp and will play pre-season and a couple at least of the beginning of the season. Why let a bunch of rookies trying to make a name for themselves take runs at him? For what purpose?

You gotta learn to deal with it. Go look at his training video on instagram. The guy has no fat to loose. He’s only a physical freak.
Huge frame that can skate.

This kid might actually be something new...

Does anyone have Ovechkin's weight at 18 years old?

Nah, to me he changed his agressiveness when he cleaned Letang’s clock middle ice. Prior to that, he was always on it. Going for the hits, playing on the border.

Chara’s hit took everything in him that was left of his swag, and he became his current self.

Yes, thats how it 100% went. He was still a PWF after the Chara hit.

Football players have even higher BMIs and are still running 40 yard dashes under 5 seconds. What youre seeing is a physical freak, not someone that should lose weight lol.

What he needs is more time to develop into his body.

Yeah, right shot #1 damn hard to find also. If they have the center, chances are most teams would grab the #1 D

This is insane to me that we are talking about a 1st overall pick being too fancy in a rookie tournament.

Jesus christ let the kid play 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He must grind lol

Bravo

Ovechkin and Kovalchuk played at 235lbs with no issues. So did Jagr.
Ok but Juraj is 18 and will presumably keep growing. The others were already fully grown

a football player and hockey player is different. At some point, he does become too heavy. I get he’s our 1st overall and we want to be positive (and I am l) but I wouldn’t want him to get any heavier.

Only 4-5 players at this weight in the league and most are defensemen. I get he’s a freak but there have been physical freaks before too. He’s not the first

He looks skinny man.. you're advocating he doesn't put on any more muscle for the rest of his career lmao.

I think you're making too big a deal honestly
This is what 6"4 people are SUPPOSED to look like technically lol, anytime you see a 6"4 and they dont weigh 210+ , then my friend, you are too skinny/lanky for that frame
A huge reason this guy went top 3 in a draft IS the fact he took the effort to grow into his body with training, where as 9/10 a kid like this is possibly a little lazier and take several more years to "fill out"

Once you reach the state Slaf is in, and maintains discipline, it's not like hes going to be adding 10 lbs every year
You reach a certain target weight, and you hover around there as long as possible
Will he reach something like 250 at age 30, tremendously possible, but his body will have gotten prepared for it over the years, and he will be even more of a handful to deal with AT that age and weight
This kids not going to be becoming a 300 lbs problem here tho..
