If by Letang hit you mean Chara hit, I agree 100%, that really calmed him down.
Nah, to me he changed his agressiveness when he cleaned Letang’s clock middle ice. Prior to that, he was always on it. Going for the hits, playing on the border.

Chara’s hit took everything in him that was left of his swag, and he became his current self.

Hey man, you do you. While it's definitely true that bench management was horrendous at the time, I don't think Eller's hockey sense would have let him be a number one center in any conceptual universe. We just didn't have top end talent on our team, which is an issue that lingers to this day.
Eller having a bad hockey sense is a myth on this forum pushed by people who didn't watch the games.

The reason that Eller stopped passing the puck for a few years is that he was constantly playing on lines with players like Bourque who didn't know how to shoot the puck.

The reality is Eller has had no trouble passing when playing with legitimate NHLers on his wing.

AK's tools were simply overrated. His heavy shot for example seemed like it would be an amazing tool, but in reality at the NHL level he couldn't get it off quickly enough to be dangerous, so in retrospect it wasn't actually a great/insane tool.

For Slaf, we'll have to see how his tools translate at the NHL level.
It’s a very off-topic conversation, but I’ve always believed that AK’s epilepsy meds probably cost him a fraction of a second in reaction time. Which probably made it hard for him to get his shot off quick enough.

Is there any evidence for this?

Nope, keyword believed.

But I’ve worked as a nurse for 10 years and dealt with many people on those medications. Some look to be mostly fine, some have a small delay in their speech and general cognition.

Might be his epilepsy itself and not the medication, too.

On another related topic, I always wondered what he did for the Olympics as almost all medications were on the prohibited substance list.

Did he go off before the Olympics and back on after? That couldn’t have been good if it was the case.

Ryan Getzlaf: hit over PPG by his third season (82 in 77), and had seven seasons of PPG or more. This is all before the big explosion in points scored of the last few years.

Clark Gillies is before my time, can't comment on him.

John LeClair was flirting with 100 pt seasons in the dead-puck era. Between the 94-95 season (when he was traded by the Habs) through to the 99-00 season he was well over PPG while facing the neutral zone trap every night every game pretty much.

If you have such high comparables for Slafkovsky you shouldn't be so shy as to think he'll only peak at being the 45th highest scorer of the most recent season. It doesn't add up.

Slafkovsky has been compared to literally every winger-with-size this board can mention at this point, so my understanding of this player's profile is less clear by the day. I've seen Jagr, Hossa, Rick Nash, Rantanen, Poolparty, Gaudreau (playmaking ability), LeClair, Radulov, Kovalchuk, Kovalev, and probably many others mentioned. I wish we had a consensus on his closest comparables.... the uncertainty isn't so fun.

In your opinion @Kennerback, what player is Slafkovsky most like?
Points when it matters is more important than RS soft points

Look, he’s what he was in the tournaments that gave him his shine. He’s big, fast, interesting tools. What he isn’t is very aware positionally, has a tendency for skating the puck up without using the teammates and more importantly not a finished product.

He’s a fascinating prospect and I hope they will be patient. Let him grow without having to be the next instant NHL superstar. Give him the keys to Laval and for god’s sake, don’t put him in front of the net on the PP. The size brigade can’t help themselves on that front it seems.
They should put Xhekaj in front of the net. Opposing Ds will be flying left and right. :)

This is kind of what I was talking about a few weeks ago. He needs to play with talent and if he starts in the AHL, who is he playing with and would he feel like he needs to do things he shouldn't. He's not really a line driver but some posters got caught in a knot about that. He will drive the play here and there but that's more about puck protection down low and along the walls. Taking the puck from one end to the other? Not so sure that is his game and it will come down to chemistry with his line mates.
I'm not getting goaded into going there again :)

I agree with you, though, that, if he plays in Laval, he might try to do too much because he won't have the same quality line mates he might in the NHL.

I'd rather he play in Montreal (with a better coach than Houle -- who might not insist on Slafkovsky being the screen on the PP) and get developed well.

Here it is:

I was more worried that Slafkovsky's shoulder might have been injured than that he had gotten a potential wonky. It's the sabres player that looked like he got a wonky and Condotta took him to task to make sure he got one ;)

was listening to their feed they did say that.

They also said:
-Devils players watched the Habs game and were very impressed with Slafkovsky
-Devils would have (likely) taken Slafkovsky if he was available
-“(Slafkofsky) just has the gift, Nemec has a lot to learn”

I agree...he changed after these 2 plays

Could have also been the massive amounts of illegal substances he was allegedly consuming on a regular basis.

Just watched Buffalo game. Slaf is special talent. Those top 3-4 picks, doubt they was a wrong one. It boils down to what your team needs and how player reacts in your city. Jersey wanted right shot high end defenseman why Nemec went second. Slaf great talent +personality played role why Habs took him. Cooley, Wright #1 centers still have tons of value.
