Here's my comparison for Juraj Slafkovsky.

Rob Gronkowski.

Guy who doesn't look fast but is actually fast, while being inhumanly big and athletic for that size.

For equal damage to both players, the D needs to go the same speed and also weigh 240. if he’s weighing 200 or not propelling his body at the same speed, he’ll get the brunt of it. See, Gronkowski’s career…. It’s going to hurt a lot. I’m talking from personal experience.

To stop a guy that size you need to hit him in the head to concuss him. You need much less power than hitting the body to cause damage.

Earlier on in his career, I would joke around that Lars' stick would be where the play goes to die from an offensive perspective, because he always made the wrong decision. Eventually, he carved out his niche as a respectable 3rd line center when he simplified things and leaned into his strengths.

That hit was hilarious. I'm not a skating mechanics guy, but in terms of raw speed, he looks fast to me.

I remember one play where Eller had the puck on a 2-on-1 and ended up skating into the corner, lost the puck and fell over. No shot or pass was attempted.

Lol, what the HELL does this sentence even mean
How many categories of speed do you have like 1000?
"Ehh I wouldnt call Juraj 875 level fast, hes more like 874th"

Either way, not sure what your trying to convey, but the kid definitely qualifies as "fast" , and THATS not the part fans should be dissecting

I'm guessing they mean Slaf is just a good skater period. Not only a good skater for a 230lb forward, but a good skater for any size class.

Bwahaha, I think I remember that exact play. You don't forget something like that, and I believe it was quite the topic of conversation on forums at the time.

I vividly remember how Max Pacioretty always had his head down early on in his career.
He learned quickly, let's hope Slaf learns just as fast.
I was thinking the same thing lol. He will learn not to cut across the middle like that especially with his head down, there are NHL guys that could put him out of the lineup on a hit like he took last night. He looks like a mix of Kris Kreider and Josh Anderson on the ice and granted, it was the first time I ever saw him play.

The EGG line was amaizing and Eller was killing it. He should have been made 1st line center but Michou had different plans with Le p’tit Prince.

Eller was NEVER given a proper opportunity here. He was passed over and given shit line mates. Then he was traded away when we were already thin on centers.. the whole thing was pathetic. Nobody could ever convince me otherwise because I saw what I saw.

Gotta admit, kinda feels nice to see some of here getting on the Slaf train after seeing a clipse of what je can become. He ain’t no bambi on ice and his skills levels are way ahead from Chucky(he only junior moves lol) and KK(still doesn’t know how to shoot the puck).

Haha yes people are starting to understand and it wasn’t even his best game. Great to see.

On this matter at least, they do not.

I genuinely can not fathom how the takeaway from last night's game would be to call him slow lmao
Yup, that's ridiculous. They dont realize that he needs less strides to cover the same ice as another player. Flailing your legs does in fact look like you are going fast but it's just not the reality.

I don't think my answer is as complicated as you are making it out to be.

When you have a big guy a lot of times people say his skating is fine for a big guy, implying his skating is not so good compared to smaller guys.

I'm saying he seems to skate well , end of story.

You just reminded me of how impressive MaxPac was earlier. He was a tough player and a physical player. Impressive how he became a legit soft space sniper, which probably gave him more years and was a good career decision.

The Letang hit really calmed him down.

Hey man, you do you. While it's definitely true that bench management was horrendous at the time, I don't think Eller's hockey sense would have let him be a number one center in any conceptual universe. We just didn't have top end talent on our team, which is an issue that lingers to this day.

Who then?

There is a lot of posters here with a known agenda on this guy. Some, like me, wanted Wright. Fine. Others are in love with other prospects. Fine. But agendas are clear as day.

I take the Sabres fan opinion over those agenda-driven posters. They just annoy me.

Wow known agenda? Really what is the agenda? How can you be so dense

Why does he have to wear 20. Christ that’s an ugly number.

Why did Drouin take 27, he didn’t deserve it
Hey come on, that's big Pete Mahovlich's number, huge smooth and quick skating player who holds the Habs records for most points (117) and assists (82) by a centreman.

You’re right, 27 would have looked great on Slaf.. He should wear 69 it’s the perfect number duality/Ying-Yang

Oh please we had Le Ptit Prince at 1st line center, Eller NEVER had a fair opportunity to prove himself, and when he was given the EGG line he was killing it. But Michou broke up the EGG line to get Le Ptit Prince going and gave him Gallagher. The EGG line was never reunited and Eller was treated like a dog.

He’s traded to Washington and put in the 3rd center spot (obviously) behind Backstrom and Kuznetsov. Backstrom goes down in the playoffs and who steps up? Mister clutch himself Lars Eller and helps lead them to a Stanley Cup win also scoring the winning goal.

Eller >>> DesHarnais and only Bergevin/Michou couldn’t see that back then.

Are you the alleged Mesar non-troll? For all I know you or that guy might be right on Mesar, but I can’t see heads from tails with him right now. His package is too indistinct from other Prospects around the NHL for me to project the nuances in his game. Maybe seeing him play at camp vs NHLers will give me a better idea.

Oh, I'll definitely give you Eller > Desharnais, but that's because I think Eller is at least an NHL 3rd line center and Desharnais might have been a 4th at best (if he even deserved to be in the NHL).

Anyway, we're going a bit off-topic here. It was just an in-passing comparison lol.
