Well if the idea is to try to get a little more speed, there is some leg strentgh to work on. Which will for sure make him gain weight in his lower body..but maybe try to lose in his upper? In the end, that league is mostly about being fast. I mean if he has the body to be fast at 240...geez, fine. But not sure there's a lot of examples of that in the real world.
Or he can get even bigger legs to push all that meat around and weigh even more. MOAR Slaf, not less!

There are not a lot of examples which is why comparing him to other players is difficult.

IF he pans out....he could be a once in a lifetime player.....dare I say it.....generational.
Football running backs and receivers and heavy and fast, but you don't have too many of those in hockey. Hoping Slaf is a natural monster like in football and that weight doesn't take away speed and stamina.

I hear ya.....I think of it as more a special size of player. Not to compare him to another great....but Slaf's body type and size is like a giant Crosby.

200lbs on a 5'11 guy would be a lot of weight as well. Add 4 inches to Crosby while maintaining the same proportions would probably bring him up close to 40 more pounds.

Slaf is a physical specimen and if he can maintain/gain explosiveness and speed.....look out!

We're talking Ovechkin and Crosby here......we drafted Slafkovsky, highly doubt he should compare as one of these two.

Slaf is already a powerful skater, the reason he is called an horse. He is built like Jagr, skating isnt an issue.

4 step acceleration was last year.

And I was mentioning this before Slafkovsky was drafted as a red flag and he was at 229lbs then.
Just stating facts.

Here are the forwards in the NHL last year carrying more than 230, not a whole lot of good player. Slaf is very young, but gaining weight shouldn't necessarily be seen as a good thing in his case

He wasn't exactly drafted for his physical attributes though. He was drafted for his skills and abilities. His size is merely a bonus. There is but one player on this whole list that has a better draft pedigree than him. He could very well be the second best player on this list when his career is finished, and that would be okay by me.

Here is a similarly drafted player (size wise) also drafted 1st overall.

"At 6'4, 240 lbs, the big power forward could do it all. Lindros was drafted first overall in 1991 after winning a Memorial Cup with the Oshawa Generals and gold at the U20 World Junior Championship."

This is so funny when you consider that list has a top 10 player of all time on it

What is ‘’bad’’ is when a player who’s smaller then gain weight/muscles in a span of a few months (like KK tried to do after his rookie year) they’re not used to be bigger and often forget the skating and explosiveness part.

Slafkovsky always been a big guy, some people just have a bigger frame. His muscles/Weight gain was gradual as he got older.

if he can become our Big Buff - I'd take it rn. One hell of a piece to a Cup run.
plus we are adding Bedard and Fantilli next year when both the Habs and the Panthers win the lottery!!!!

Lmao imagine the Chaos, then grab Dubois and have a top 6 of

Dubois - Fantilli - Bedard
Slaf - Suzuki - CC

I'd be insanely happy to grab one of them and hope either Mesar or Dach is our final top 6 forward with Dubois here eventually.

I'm not sure we can read much into his weight right now, we'll have to see him against NHL players before we can draw any informed conclusions simply because everybody's body is different and we lack have a good idea about it. That being said being faster is always good so his focus physically should probably be on speed/acceleration simply because the combo of size/speed is so dangerous.

EDIT: Also worth noting I have a lot more confidence that our management will actually give good advice and help the players execute on that advice then I did under Bergevin and his bicep club.

Ovechkin is one of the greatest players of a generation.

Lee, Mantha and Greenway all play integral roles on their teams.

Lucic was a very effective and unique player in his prime.

Maroon and Boyle have been role players on good to great teams in their careers.

That’s 7/12 players.
If you were to divide the league into 20(or 10)-lb weight classes, I imagine that the ratio of generational/impact/role player to replacement-level players would be quite similar.

IMO, only 3 of these guys were overdrafted for size (Ritchie, Gauthier, McCarron).

Size is only one commonality between these players. Where were they drafted? What was their expectation coming into the league? What types of players are/were they?
