Context… 17-18 Galchenyuk was -31 for the season, and following season -19 for Yotes … both playing W
To clarify the numbers I posted were of Galchenyuk with the Habs only.

But I'm curious what your point is? Because it seems like your just further proving my point, that teams didn't figure out Galchenyuk after his rookie year and in fact his best games were at center not wing showing that it was actually his usage as a winger that was the problem all along.

I thought he would, yknow, do his job and talk with Hughes, Bobrov, and others to give the readers something new. Nope. He basically does a recap of the Behind The Scenes video we've all seen and inserts his own bits like "iWhile watching the video it becomes clear the Canadiens have a lot of smart people within their new hockey-operations group...."

Thanks for the insight. No wonder the Gazette is failing.

I think nearly all local papers are failing. Then again, traditional large corporate mainstream media is in general pretty useless.

I understand not wanting to rock the boat and lose access but these guys do less than nothing. Their pieces are value negative if you take into account the time it takes to read it and the energy it takes to host their insipid pieces online.

I was thinking. Who are some non-Finnish young players that dominated Liiga? I couldn't think of some off the top of my head. Maybe, some bias not wanting a non-FInnish player to succeed

Are people still arguing that Galchenyuk was a center? Talk about dying on a hill lol

Not at all. First, Liiga teams have 90% of Finnish players, just because North American and the best European players play in the NHL / AHL. They just play their best players because they want to win now. Their job is not to develop players on behalf of the NHL. It is silly to think Slaf lack of production is due to some kind of xenophobia.

Fully agreed. My exact thoughts when I heard that. You draft for size at 1OA so that you can pick a small player at 62OA, what the hell ?
I remember hearing this and also thinking that it was stupid, but I think what Chris Boucher implied was that he probably wanted to draft Wright, but said that at least if we draft size now, then we won't need to debate about size in the future.

It was more of a concession on his part and less a reasoning to draft Slaf at 1.

Yeah, I think it's because Slaf's analytics weren't good, so Boucher wanted Wright.

But then Bobrov came in with his "Hockey Historians want us to draft Short-Sighted and Moar Bigger" speech and it seems they went in that direction. Boucher's response was basically "well you better let me draft m*****f****n Hutson then."

Still this is not a very smart comment and this is even less smart to release it in the video.

You should never draft because of size. Just take BPA, and over 3 consecutive drafts you're going to have 21 prospects on average and you are going to have some big and small players just because of natural size distribution.

Some scouts appear to be total idiots.

'"We should draft for size with the 1st overall selection so we don't make the mistake of drafting for size later."
Is this the actual quote? Nope

"If taking Slafkovsky means that we don't start drafting guys later for size.. I think that's where teams start to make mistakes."

It was never about solely drafting for size. I know we're headed towards a game where size matters less, but you can't takeaway that size is and will always be a factor in making decisions.

I'm not saying that they were right to do it, but if this decision allows you to make riskier bets, then I understand it.

...good...I'd love to see Tkachuk get fed his lunch...someone just needs to teach Slaf the Slaughterer how to fight now...
Sgt. Slafter?

No, they talked about Slaf's analytics and how they were actually really good.. that you can't compare a winger's analytics to a centers because centers will have better analytics most times by virtue of getting more puck touches.

The numbers prove that Galchenyuk was better at center then at wing, he was more productive and had a better +/-. How anyone can still argue that Therrien didn't do anything wrong in handling Galchenyuk is a much stranger hill to die on.

If TPS wants to sign more prodigies, they have to develop them properly; otherwise prodigies won't sign with them anymore. That's the feeling I got from reading TPS' translated forum, their own fans couldn't understand why Slaf didn't have better opportunities, and held Djugarden in high esteem because it's a gold mine for nhl draft blue chippers. Prodigies help those teams because they are cheap and talented and garner international attention. TPS fans were worried blue chippers wouldn't sign with their team anymore because of Slaf's handling. It's a lot more complicated than you think. When you say: "They just play their best players because they want to win now", it's kind of meaningless, because it's determined by the hunches and guesses of the coach in RLT and not by objective truth. The coach is subjected to ignorance, passions, peer pressure, etc, no coach is perfect. You should read Fear and Trembling by Kierkegaard, if you want to understand what RationalExpectations ultimatly means.

Well that‘s a very american way to see it : play the guys who are going to play 15 years for us rather than the guys who are going to make you win. If fans were criticizing Slaf‚s handling and quoting Djugarden as an example to follow they are completely illogical : if you have not watched their games, just look at their top prospects stats this year, they have not played a lot at all, Ostlund, Lekkerimaki, Ohgren all have played 3rd / 4th liner minutes when called. Heineman is still playing 3rd line in his D+2 in SHL.

These teams want to win their championship, their pride does not come from their name being mentioned at the NHL draft. They play their best players in order to win. And clearly the coach thought that Slaf was not as good as their 1st liners, same with Djugarden. What you are implying is that their coaches are bad because you want to see your prospects, that‘s so arrogant and immature to say the least.

If you want to learn to think properly, I‘d advise you Discours de la méthode from Descartes, yes I can namedrop too and in the original language !
