What "everybody" missed on Wright is that he didn't have a pulse all season long. Not hard to see after 10 second watching him. But he's got that IQ and shot so he coasted it. The blame is on Wright, not on the Montreal Canadiens who asked for nothing more than to draft a generational franchise center.

Wright got humiliated but he got off easy. Still a 4th overall pick at the end of the day. He will make millions of dollars on the West Coast with a chance to prove all his doubters wrong.

Smart poster, IMO

I feel like there has to be more to it too than just on ice performance . Like they don’t think he is mature enough or something . Phoenix passing on him too really raised my eyebrows .

From my own list:

Juraj Slafkovsky LW

Puck possession monster and physical specimen, Slafkovsky’s package is pretty unique. The way he generates power all over the ice coupled with some of the smoothest hands in the draft and great shooting skills easily makes him one of the most attractive players in the draft.

Projection: Top line power forward

Slafkovsky’s package is why we took him.

More like Marcel according to the Debbie downers on here
I feel sorry for players getting drafted and traded to Montreal
We eat our young before a single shift
No "we" don't. The Canadiens program of development have traditionally (for years) been horrible at developing forwards after drafting them.

Are you Bobrov lol?

Hope you're right man, really hope we didn't screw up that pick. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Where does he play next year, not a big fan of 18 year olds in the AHL, I know he's a big kid but I would rather not rush him to the AHL.
Well, Hughes said he saw him and Wright play in the NHL next season fwiw.

But I guess a season of dominating Liiga wouldn't hurt for sure.

My choice was Wright and still is. Hope he lights it up at the WJC for Canada to show why he obtained exceptional status. For Slafkovsky, I hope he does really well with the habs.

They met/talked 6-7 times. That's a lot of conversations.

So is GoldenHands now King of the Montreal Boards for being right about Slafkovsky?

Yes, he is the new ruler.

I was prepared to be let down, but still sucks to actually have it happen. I'm not happy with this pick. I will root for the guy though. I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
My thoughts pretty much.
Really hope the guy proves most of us wrong.
Should've bet money on him going 1OA, would've soften the blow at least lmao
But I thought it was impossible they passed on wright so why bother (who's the fool now)

We'll see, can't wait for the next few seasons and how those guys look.

How big is that Slafkovsky guy exactly? He's listed at 6'4" 230 lbs, 18 years old is this for real?

They better ***ing know what they’re doing here.
They don't. Instead of going with a player with a proven track record, they went for the statistically worst #1 draft pick in NHL history, reaching. Because of size.

Then, they trade Romanov, a 3rd and 4th-round picks for a big center with a major wrist injury who never met expectations. Because of size.

Same great decision-making logic that got the Habs rock-hard for guys like Tinordi and McCarron who were worthless but picked way earlier than they should've been. Because of size.

Size is great but drafting him at #1 is so insanely stupid, I am utterly baffled at how clueless they are with this pick. He played great for like 3 months and got good stats in a tournament and that's somehow supposed to elevate him to that degree when his stats were average beforehand?

I've watched many highlight packages and I don't see anything great about his play. His skating is awkward, his shot is average, he doesn't have great hockey IQ, and from what I've read, he isn't a defensively smart player. Take away the size and the Habs would not have drafted him, period. It's just so crazy that they let his height blind them to far better players such as Cooley and, yes, Wright.

Do I want him to do well? Sure. Do I think he will? No. First #1 overall pick in 42 years and they waste it by gambling with a high-risk reach, thinking he's the next Cam Neely. You can try to pull a rabbit out of your hat with lower picks. Picking first overall should not be about taking unnecessary risks for no good reason.
