Romano in June

.200 average .289 OBP, .258 wOBA, 28.9% K rate, 1.18 WHIP

Romano in July
.308 average, .379 OBP, .433 wOBA, 20.7% k rate, 1.65 WHIP

Yeah. It's a problem.
Worse then I thought it would be. Those are the types of stats that get normal pitchers sent down.

While there's definitely reason for concern, this is also a good example of why it's important to be patient with relievers with good track records: those July stats consist of 6.2 innings. They were awful, but still...

I hope it’s not the sticky stuff crackdown that affected him…

romano lost his superpower when he stopped with the deep knee bend.

the bigger potential issue is that he lost his powers when the sticky stuff crackdown happened. I wish I could find a tweet or something about it, but I remember someone pointing out somewhere that when MLB started harping on foreign substances both of Romano's primary weapons lost RPMs and his slider lost a ton of its bite.

i think i heard it from mitchell on overdrive that both him and hand have some inflated numbers since the crackdown.

Is it possible he’s just fatigued? He hasn’t pitched this deep into a season in the big leagues as a reliever in his career. His first couple seasons in the big leagues were shortened seasons.

D'oh. Seems like every reliever on this team gets snake bit sooner or later.

Romano is throwing 100 so it's not a medical problem but the movement on his breaking pitches has dried up. The concerns that it's a sticky stuff issue seem legitimate.

Clearly it is. He looks like a shell of himself. No mound presence. No intimidation factor.
He looks like he's walking around gingerly like an old man in the bullpen. Not sure what's up. He looks a bit beat up rn. He's throwing hard though so maybe some combo of mental, a bit of fatigue and sure maybe sticky stuff. I'm not that concerned though I think he will turn it around
