The offense has bailed Ryu out a couple times already in bad starts. Last time against Baltimore, and in August against the Red Sox

Also the Yankees fell behind 5-0 to Minny and still won earlier this week so the comeback is more than doable as long as they don't keep giving up runs
Problem is that Pineda is actually decent and the Twins aren’t cursed against us like they are against the Yankees.

It’s his endurance. He has none and he’s not fit so he sucks in the last two months of the season.

Of course he's fit. You know all players have to pass physicals to play, right? Guarantee none of us could pass it.

hes now got an 10.69 era this month if im correct. i would scratch him personally. we actually want to win these games.
It’s difficult. You can handle a guy who isn’t as good as he used to be in the 2nd half of a contract if he’s a 4.50 era guy and gives you 190-200 innings, that’s a 2 WAR innings eater and #5 starter. Not ideal for 20 million but ok.

But if he’s a 6.00 era guy... yikes. You’re going to need to pay him 20 million to not even play because he’s such a negative and provides no value. I don’t care if he’s not an ace but I’m getting concerned if this guy can even be a #5 starter at this point next year.

tbh im just worried about the rest of his starts this year. if hes a 4.00 era pitcher next year it is what it is. but the remainder of this year they need to make a difficult decision because hes a liability.

He was terrible in July, very good in August, and has been awful in September. So I'm not sure endurance is the answer.
I wouldn’t say he was very good in August. He gave up 7 earned runs twice and had a 6+ ERA.

I'm not worried about this year, they can replace him pretty easy with Hatch/Stripling who have shown signs they can be a #5 starter. It's the remainder of the contract I'd be worried about.

I am glad Vlad is shutting up the critics that have been saying he can only hit in minor league ball parks. I don't care too much, but I think he is the AL MVP. Ohtani has slowed down. He can pitch and hit, give him the MVP every season then

i mean im worried if they actually will do it, given his contract and him being the "ace" coming into the year. i personally wouldnt give him another start, games are too important now.

The numbers aren't bad, not enough to raise concerns(August). Below average, but not terrible. I won't lie, it wasn't pretty, so nobody should be surprised as to how awful he's been.

Having a 6+ ERA is a concern. His ERA jumped by 3 runs from July.

His stats are inconsistent throughout the season. I'm not trying to argue here, things looked "off" going into August for him. The trickery that Ryu uses to be effective was disappearing.

I’m just saying his endurance is likely a factor. The monthly stats back it up.

i think you give ryu a opener. like they do with yarbrough in tampa. start it off with a flamethrower to get the timing off
They need to do something soon... but there's options.

1.

Pearson as an opener. (the flame-thrower idea you mentioned isn't a bad idea).
Ryu for bulk.

2.

Hatch as an opener.
Stripling for bulk.

#2 probably makes sense.

I'd give Ryu a maximum of 1 more chance to figure it out based on the importance of the rest of the year.

Kids, if you know you're about run into a wall, don't stick your hand out feeling for it. That's how you break your wrist. Use your forearm instead and brace for the impact. This can still hurt, but there are way more muscle groupings and thicker bones to protect your arm then there is in your wrist.
