Bottom of the order up for the White Sox too. Just please pound the zone, Romano. Nothing drives me more insane than nibbling against the bottom of the order when you can throw 100 MPH.

Pretty unnecessarily dangerous slide by Kimbrel
It is, however, the easiest way to run towards home plate as a pitcher, field the throw from the catcher and then apply the tag. It can be dangerous though as you mentioned given that both the pitcher and the base runner are in danger of being spiked (depending on the type of slide) or worse.

If I'm not mistaken Kimbrel has a reputation for being a bit of a knob. Not saying he did it on purpose, but am suggesting that he potentially doesn't care.

If that had unfolded very slightly differently that could have been an exceptionally controversial play - either a serious injury or a decision about blocking the plate or both.

Not sure about reputation but certainly was reckless.

That was spikes up leading slide into home, Seemed like he was just unsure of what to actually do.

But I fail to see the advantage in applying the tag with that approach at all. Most likely to cause injury than successful tag out.

Still not much going offensively but at least it was against Lance Lynn this time around and not *checks notes* Tyler Alexander, Drew Hutchison, and Wily Peralta. This was likely the most difficult game pitching matchup wise for the Blue Jays this series so it's a huge win.

Agreed, I think it's just a thing that you don't practice as a pitcher and everything is happening quickly. Don't think there was any intent there and you could see Kimbrel give Valera a bit of a pat on the back at the end of the play.
