The problem with those lines is that you are going to need to match up against a top line from Russia, Sweden, Canada, Finland at some point, and you don't wants guys like Zegras, Caufield, or Kaliyev having to play that role. Kaliyev doesn't like playing defense. Zegras and Caufield are not terrible defensively, but it's not a strength for either.

Separate it out. Have one offensive line and one defensive line. I like that much better than two balanced lines. It's not as if we have an ultra good shutdown third line. Do you want Brink in that role? I don't. And our fourth line shouldn't play very much.

Zegras isn’t broke, so don’t fix him imo. Let him focus on what he does best by leaving him on the wing.

Also think we’d kind of be cutting off our nose to spite our face by moving our second best defensive C to wing in Beniers to have a “shutdown” line. We’d be making the whole less than the sum of its parts.

Zegras is solid defensively and has a super good stick. He is also randomly chippy and pesty.

I’d rather not have a line that’s a complete liability, though

What does that mean? Sounds like he can beat matchup problem inserted throughout the lineup. A nice luxury to have.
No need to complicate things. He’s one of the 12 best forwards. Play him. They are already short handed losing all of those guys to COVID testing.

It effectively takes him off the PP as well where he can really make a difference.

How does his line effect his power play time? USA used four forwards on the PP against Finland. Strong cases can be made for all six forwards on the top two lines.

They only used three forwards on the second unit. Having an extra player not take a regular shift and only play them on the PP never works out. Ask Cam York among others. Not to mention it makes no sense logically. Classic case of overthinking a lineup.

Let's wait and see if Leaman mixes up the lines regularly as he said he was going to do.

No issue with Brisson as the extra right now. He was very sluggish against Finland.

I've never seen a goalie complete so many passes to the opposing team in one game. The team is playing like trash, but this is largely on Knight. He's starting to develop a worrisome trend of struggling in big time situations. Wolf should be the #1 point forward unless he struggles.

Sanderson is struggling. Enough with the blind passes from the defensive corner to the slot.

It feels like the team is losing every faceoff. One of the downsides of losing a bunch of your centers.

Nothing really positive about this one. I'm mostly interested to see if the coaches approach the 3rd with any urgency.
