WJC: 2021 Sweden Roster Talk

Grewe was cut because he tested positive for Corona, even though he has had Corona already and had several negative tests after that. Nevermind the tests are highly dubious in the first place. A positive answer means it's about 60% certain you have Corona, it could just as well have given a positive result because he had antibodies.

As for Grans, he will get another attempt, but it's so damn sad Swedish staff is always so incompetent when it comes to picking the best team. They always need their traffic cones.

I don't know about the details surrounding Grewe but you can have Covid more than once, the main problem with the test is false negatives not the other way around(doesn't mean there are no false positives and him having several negative tests before and after could certainly point towards Grewe having a false positive but you have the 60% stuff backwards) and having antibodies doesn't make a pcr test positive.

IMO someone screwed up here. I know its expensive to charter flights but there was a better solution .. someone dropped the ball for sure

The Finnish staff tried to tell them multiple times 2 months beforehand that the plane wouldn't be able to carry all the luggage and they even offered to come up with solutions but they said nope we got this.. Didn't work out too well. Pure comedy show is what it is.

That's possible. My only worries are that Niederbach isn't as good glue for the Terror Twins as Henriksson and that Sweden gets put out in the Quarters (by Finland or Germany, maybe).

Neiderbach is still a highly skilled, second round pick. Playing with guys the calibre of Raymond and Holtz and he should be able to carry his own weight fine. He'll definitely be the third wheel on that line but the 2 wingers shouldnt need a guy as good as Neiderbach to be dominant. The fact that they can replace Henriksson with a guy that solid (who originally wasnt even incited to camp) is good for the Swedish team

Grans hasn't had a very good year for Malmo so far. He's been a giveaway/turnover machine. Considering how thin Sweden is at center after losing people due to COVID I think it's probably the better move to cut a risk taking defender. With Wallstedt/Alnefeldt in goal and the defensemen they have, I think they'll play more defensively than originally expected as well.

Plus the defense group for Sweden now isn't lacking in offense at all. Broberg, Johansson and Bjornfoot are all good offensively without sacrificing defense like Grans does.

Team manager Jonas Fransson is sent home after breaking quarantine rules. Embarrassing and disrespectful.

I guess he went to Edmonton with the same lazy mind set towards restrictions (called "recommendations" in Sweden - nothing happens if you break them) as the common man here in Sweden. Did not work outside the borders of Sweden. Bye bye.

This is such an appalling way to represent Sweden. It's beyond stupid.
Still, I'd like to hear Franssons view on what went about.
Did he make any effort to reach out to IIHF or tournament management to get outside help before going to airport to get that piece of luggage that had been left behind? What made him think exiting the bubble was okay? It simply sounds too stupid. There has got to be layers to this story. If there isnt more layers, it's just astounding how someone so stupid isnt already locked up in some kind of institution for the mentally disabled.

The iihf rules are pretty clear. He should not even be leaving his room at this point

Yes I know.
There should be some kind of tournament office to which participants of this event can turn for assistance if issues occur, like a luggage left at airport.
Did he reach out to them? Fransson has been a team manager for U18/U20 national teams for 13 years so he should be more than familiar with dealing with tournament officials.
There is something fishy about this.
 
Sounds like he went back to the airport get some kind of medical device he'd forgotten. Maybe he panicked. Still stupid.
