So William Eklund is playing in the SHL tonight but can’t go to the World Juniors, seems reasonable..

Well those were the rules unfortunately. The logical way to minimize risk would have been to not bring in replacements and let Eklund, Grewe etc join the team later.

Sweden's head, assistant, goalie and video coach all tested positive. Since they can't add anyone outside the bubble from Sweden anymore, they're now looking for help from North America.

Only one of those things involves international travel

As I understand it isn't about traveling, it's about the bubble? I mean the tournament starts in over 2 weeks and he's been healthy for a while. I'm sure he can travel into Canada in time for that[/QUOTE]

He can't travel to Canada in time to enter the bubble on Sunday. I am pretty sure that is the entire issue. There has to be a certain amount of time after the positive test before entering Canada. The Swedes didn't leave themselves enough time.

The traveling part I can understand, the bubble not as much. Why can't he just self isolate after entering Canada and then join the bubble? And since he has already had it he should be less likely to spread it..

Also in this case it wasn't about time, he caught it before camp

He plays for my team here in Sweden so it's to our advantage, but I was expecting big things from him in this tournament

Once they lock the bubble, I'm sure they'll keep it locked.

I mean they could with j20 players, but not SHL and HockeyAllsvenskan. Also as mentioned above the particular case with Eklund wasn't about time.
Fair enough but if you'd asked me a month ago which country would mess up the Covid thing, I would have put my money on the country that did.

If I understand it comes down to a couple things, first off I don't think they are letting anyone else into the bubble after the Sunday. Fully closed off bubble, strictly adhered to. Which leads to the main issue that he just flat out wouldn't be able to get into Canada in time to enter the bubble. It would be a month long process for him anyways. Need to be 2 weeks past the positive test to get in and then still have to do a 2 week quarantine upon entry if he isn't going right into the bubble. Logistically the best way to combat this would have been for all the nations to gather the players 2 1/2-3 weeks prior to traveling to Canada so that a positive case had time to isolate and be clear to travel.

Team is basically the U18 World champions reinforced with Heineman, Niederbach, Gunler (f:s) and Grans (d).

Minus Henriksson.
