This WJC exposed Russia as a team that has no coaching talent. We need a new Tikhonov, a very smart hockey coach who had personality, knowledge and a plan (perhaps several plans) how to beat top teams at the end of the day. Larionov failed to have a working plan, then he didn't have plan b or plan c. Canadians are laughing at him now that he let Podkolzin take over the bench when Podkolzin was seen giving a speech. That is ridiculous. It is like Igor took one on the chin and his legs were gone in the middle rounds.

You’re talking 2010, the result is there, we just beat Canada 6-0 and then should’ve won the finals last year, this year the team isn’t very good, so it was hard to expect an outstanding result, yet we still beat USA and Sweden.
Beat Canada 6-0 in group. And then lost in finals. You can do whatever you want in group, but win in the final is what everyone is looking for. If you decide to be the country of always second, third and forth places, then it is up to you. The fact is that Bragin didn't win a single tournament in last 10 years and country doesn't produce so much talent they did before. Otherwise name me please the dozen of stars like Panarin, Ovechkin, Kucherov level developed in last 5 years.

Bragin's team fought till the end and teams using on 100% their potential.

Maybe I am idealizing Bragin but... I really can't blame his teams.

We lost prev final. I don't blame the team it was the gold silver as for me.

As well as this one. Not so strong team like of this and prev year, but what a game:

Lost? But no one could throw a stone at them.

Who cares about NHL only talants? In NHL a lot of shit teams. Finland won men's world cup having in their team mostly players from unknown league while Russia had the best team of all time I guess with bunch of NHLers and lost to them. NHL it's cool but not only NHL is the measure to check how is good your hockey.

I care about NHL talents just because I watch best quality league in the workd and can't watch sh*tty KHL which has mediocre teams even from China, which doesn't have Chinese players on the team. I don't like the tournament made for SKA. However I have kids and I know what is kids hockey in our country. You didn't respond on my question because you have nothing to say. The facts are still same, Bragind didn't win any tournament in last 10 years and Russia don't produce elite talents like it did before. And I don't have any issue with Bragin as well.

As for world cup, don't tell anyone but this is second tier or even third tier tournament.

Russia won Canada last year in group, in final was just a bit unlucky but by the game was definately better.

For all these ten years Russia winning medals, so?) Everything is bad! If you are a Navalny supporter then I understand why you talk so much about Rottenberg...

Russia has won one (1) Gold Medal in the last 17 years. A so-called Silver Medal (it is ridiculous to call them that, as if it was the Olympics), was more frequent but still rare for Russia. A Bronze medal was far more common, although it seems completely stupid to reward a team for finishing in 3rd place. You were the one who brought up the name Navalny, but if he is in favor of bringing pride to the Russian people by developing high-quality sports teams, that would probably have a lot of popular appeal across the full spectrum of Russia.

People in Russia need to get more income in order to have ability to get the kids playing competitive hockey. Last 7 years people in Russia has less income with each year so not many of them can provide competitive hockey education for thier kids. And even if they can, they still need to find a way to get the kids in to places in the team bought by more economically succesfull parents.

I understand that some Russian people cry when we lose, coz we get used to win too much, but it's just a sport. I just said look at those games where we lost the gold in the finals and you will see it has golden color.

But ofc it's Putins' fault hahaha. Navaly is zero in sport as well as in politics. Navalny will never become president of my country (even tho I supported him at start).

About our attitude to wins... 2012 year, we won amazingly mens WC no loses, smashing everyone. Slovakia lost 6:2 in final and Slovak people meet their team as heros as the winners of silver, thousand thousand of ppl met them in their capital... but in Russia just bunch of ppl greet our golden team. Why? Coz it's in our mentality to underestimate our wins.

Silver for you and bronze are shit? okay, go on. I think differently. :)

Lol, silver and bronze doesn't mean anything, it still nothing, it still a defeat. What counts is gold. We had a gold 10 years ago and players who won it now are one of the best. And when it comes to picking a WC team these guys always go first and noone remember about bronze and silver winners at all.

Russia has been building ice hockey rinks like never before. Ice is what is needed for development and as a result Russia develops enough elite players to compete every year. Malkin and Panarin come from below average income families as an example. So I am not sure what you are trying to say. To me this is nonsense.

Russia's main problem is a lack of talented coaches that can create winning teams. It has to be a confident individuals who are smart, confident and can do their research quick and make quick decisions. The decision to appoint Larionov clearly flawed. What coaching experience does Igor have? He got the position only because of his name. Look at Canada's coach - he has impressive coaching resume, Larionov is no match for him.

You are not right. Firstly many ice rinks means just a place to play hockey. This doesn't mean development on elite prospects. Elite prospects are developed from the system of coaches, scouts, youth camps, competetive hocket education. This is what russian hockey lacks. Also Russia is building a lot of ice rinks, but what is an average price to play there for kids? What is a price to support your kids playing competetive hockey? Do you know?
I asked a simple question, name me a dozen of the elite players like Panarin, Tarasenko, Kucherov, Kuznetsov who developed in Russia in last 5 years, No one can name. So who are saying nonsene here?

All I can see here is bullsh*t propoganda from TV that we build many ice rinks. Same as in soccer. Build a lot of stadiums for WC, but soccer in Russia is on lowest level ever.

but what about that after ending ussr we lost 50% of ppl?) or near to that

Russia now probably has the best bunch of young goaltenders under 25. Kaprizov is the next superstar, will be better than Panarin in playoffs, Romanov is going to be a stud. Sergachev already won SC at his age. Gurianov will be an amazing scorer of elite level, there is plenty.

Kaprizov even didn't get the place in main team right now. Saying that he will be a superstart is not right. Romanov? he is not superstar either. Same as Gurianov. For now they just mediocre. Sergachev is one who is good. That's all? You named a number of players that is less that the golden team provided in 2011. What is a conclusion?
Sergachev by the way went to America 6 years ago. I would name Svechnikov instead of him.

What are you talking about? Who did Canada develop who has as good shot as Gurianov at his age? And Canada has 20 times more rinks than Russia, like 15 times more registered players? The best winger in the world in Kucherov is Russian. Kaprizov will take some time to adjust to small rinks but he will be amazing, top 10 top 15 forward with the time.

I think your understanding of hockey is primitive. You don't even understand that Russian players generally are late bloomers. Podkolzin will be amazing as well.

Regiestered players is different. This is not the same as number of rinks. There is no real correlation. You didn't get my point or don't want. You simply can't answer my question. How many people can afford their kids in Russia to get hockey education? As for elite players. Kaprisov is probable superstar. He is not right now. So you didn't really names a players on Panarins, Kucheroc, Tarasenko level who developed in Russia in last 5 years.

Again, we discussed this before here. And will discuss in next years. Russia will not win WJC until system is changed. We could comeback to same discussion again next year.

I want you to tell me who developed and how many forwards in the last 5 years in the level of Svechnikov? Outside of McDavid

Those amount of ppl rising obviously. At the end of USSR those wins was just a inertia. We started to build new hockey in 2000s so it's only 20 years.
So, the was a gape, now you will see new stars, a lot of stars. And why do you think it's about affording smth? why u ignored the statement that hockey is not our 1st game? =))

Would they ever consider, say Bob Hartley (KHL)?? or at least as an assistant? Probably not.
Canada has used Ralph Kruger, who is dual Can-Germ citizen.
They can consider hiring foreign coach, but this wouldn't change anything. I would say that 2-3 years will be lost and they come back hiring local coaches.

McDavid and MacKinnon come to mind. Lafreniere is also a beast.
