I don't get why this team Russia is so slow to advance when they get the puck. These extra passes they always try to make slow the offense considerably.

It seems the tournament's over, 3-0 down after the 1st, nothing to show for and barely any chances to score. Larionov's "Russian mothers" have failed him, or did he underestimate the Canadian mothers?

This type of game doesn't work. Slowing down the offense in order to have the puck control is useless. Because of this the attack is so slow. They will never be able to create many scoring chances like that. Larionovs system sucks, simple as that.

This is the slowest attack I have ever seen team Russia play at U20. Definitely by design. Stretch pass? Not existent.

I would possibly give him one more year to try with a better roster

Sure since it is not fair to give only one year to a coach. However I do not see what he can change. His vision of the game is flawed. It was clear during Czech game that this offense doesn't work and I do not see any adjustments. Russia is on its way to be shutout second time in 4 games. This hasn't happened in a decade or more.

I really feel for the kids. They were playing a system that was destined to fail.

A bit disappointed Askarov wasn’t very good, couldn’t handle the pressure, I assume.

I secretly was expecting this outcome with this roster but was hoping for some bounces to go our way, it didn’t happen and we lost.

It’s okay though folks. We won medals in 9 out of last 10 tournaments, hopefully we can continue that streak tomorrow

So who didn't like Bragin? Much respect to Lariovon as a hockey player but as a coch maybe he should start from another team? So much talks before the game and where is the result?

Askarov can be mistaken... the 1st period can be awful. But you still had 30-40 mins to change the game. Did not score anything. Who at blame? We had fair right to wait from talated team much more better game. Here is the coach's fault imo.

Bragin wouldnt change anything. The outcome would be the same. How many times Bragin won the champ? Just once. He brought the toughest players with highest possible age for this tournament.
This issue is in talent development in Russia. The development system in controlled by corrupt officials starting right from the head. The talented guys dont get proper development. Rich one can buy a place in the team in the line with talented guy, so he can play. As a result, the line become average and talent is not developed. 10 years ago that wasn't such an issue like it became now. Nothing will change until kids can get real chance to play with the best. And this can't be changed until whole country is look in a same way.

I have seen it many times - great players have no understanding on how to build teams. This is the case. I still do not understand how this team planned to score? I haven't seen anything suggesting that there was a thought behind this. I seriously think I could have coached this team better with 3 weeks given. I saw so many holes after several games it would be crazy to believe Canada wouldn't exploit them.

I am torn about next year. I do believe giving any coach second chance is the right thing but I just don't see Larionov improving. He was clearly outclassed by Czech and Canadian coaches, what can he do different next year?

When was the last time team Russia was shutout two games in 6 games? Bragin for sure would have done better, his attack was very different than this team. He valued speed and quick transitions, this team played slow developing offense.

I also think in previous years Subway series really helped to build the team. This year we lacked that. We had just weak Euroleague opponents.

Bragin would do better but not win the tournament. It would be 5-2 or 4-2 intead. This issue is much more serious.

After each loss you will start to talk about hockey development? :D But if Russia won you would say ''all is ok''. Shouldn't make big conclusions just out of one game. We have one game and the decisions of a coach. I would understand loss in the fighting, but there wasnt actual fighting, and it's not about the corruption or so on bs. It's just a coach.

BTW, hockey is not number one sport in Russia and not even second I guess.

BuT iZ zE gl0RioUs S0Viet wAY!1!

Only someone as arrogant as Larionov would imply that he was installing "Soviet ways" in a week for use in a 10-day tournament. Soviet teams practiced an extremely intricate system, for the game of hockey, on average, about 1400 hours per year. The ridiculous backward build, with the puck constantly moving backward, only served to give opposing teams plenty of time to get into defensive position.

I have seen video of the '82 and '85 losses, and I think this is the worst performance in Russian WJC history.

But IF!!! This IF happened 10 years ago last time and there were good times, just before everything started to degrade. And then Rotenberg happened.

Russia won Canada last year in group, in final was just a bit unlucky but by the game was definately better.

For all these ten years Russia winning medals, so?) Everything is bad! If you are a Navalny supporter then I understand why you talk so much about Rottenberg...

This team still can win a medal, so? They can win every year, but this doesn't mean anything if they don't want. Just check the prospects we had in year 11 and after. How many real NHL start we had after year 11, can you name a dozen of them, huh? I am not Navalny supporter at all, but there is obvious issue right all over the place. Rotenberg is responsible for hockey in Russia, so yes, he is a part of the issue.

You’re talking 2010, the result is there, we just beat Canada 6-0 and then should’ve won the finals last year, this year the team isn’t very good, so it was hard to expect an outstanding result, yet we still beat USA and Sweden.
