That explains a lot.I actually like his work.

There is a clear connection between the quality of the opponent and the quality of team Russia play. There should be no reason why Russia should be in a dogfight with limited teams like Czech Republic and Germany. As soon as they play with teams sitting back they can't create offense inside and that is why they had so many useless shot attempts, specifically from the blue line. Luckily Germans didn't block as well as Czechs so they couldn't utilize Russia's turnovers. Yes. Russias best games came against strong opponents, it is because Russian game is more successful when it is not trapped against.
Yarik, please activate god mode soon.
he works for sport-express, he covers Russian hockey, that makes him a Russian expert, his ethnicity has NOTHING to do with anything.Shevchenko is not even Russian. He is like that moldovan Ovi hater who always pretended to be a Russian journalist except he is from Kharkov or something along those lines. Not so sure what made him "Russian hockey expert". Russia is very thin on real hockey specialists.
As far as team Russia, it is bad. Poorly coached. This game against Germany was as bad as against Czechs except Czechs are just better finishers. Very inconsistent, poor tactics, lots of useless shot attempts. The team doesn't look like it has good hockey IQ. Low scoring is a huge problem. I don't think I have seen team Russia to miss so many shots. I don't know which Soviet style Larionov is trying to build, it looked more like Varnakov coaching from several years ago. Likely loss in the semis and possibly in the bronze game.
I agree, it's both. i don't see anyone on this team, who will be a game breaker in the future. At times i thought they were toying with germany, but I am not sure that was the case. That's the only way to win.
Sure Larionov has his faults, but this team is short on talent.
I also think Askarov is overrated, he has his moments of glory, but he is no Vasilevskiy.

He works for Sport-Express. That alone would be enough.he works for sport-express, he covers Russian hockey, that makes him a Russian expert, his ethnicity has NOTHING to do with anything.
You mean there are Leafs prospects on Team Canada?Kind of want to see the Leafs prospects succeed and go for the gold but realistically, don't see any path through.
Looked like he was lost track of the puck on first glance, thought he was looking at his defenseman.
I wonder if Askarov was screened on that German goal, he’s typically strong with his glove
He still has problems finding the puck on outside shots through a maze of bodies. In other words, screen him and you will beat him. That is a flaw that will be hard to fix, and it will likely stalk him throughout his career.

Russian hockey is not exempt from being covered by idiots, a-holes and plain bad journalists.
Shevchenko is all three.
P.S. That is why he is already boycotted by many russian players, coaches and so on. And he is on his best way to becoming the favorite of a marginal crowd of intellectually disadvantaged, scandal loving, ignorant drunks. Whether that kind of base will be enough to carry him financially remains to be seen. It is possible in our times. Does not make him a journalist though.
Just as the mentioned hockey players and coaches who won't talk to this POS. He is also probably the only one who gets that much "love" from the hockey community. As usual you are entitled to your own opinion.
Askarov's defenseman screened him on that goal. If you watch the reply from the netcam angle, you can see Askarov staring daggers at his defenseman skating around the back of the net after he realizes it's a goal. Honestly, no goalie has a chance from a shot like that from the slot if their own man takes away their eyes right as the opponent shoots. You just have to hope the puck hits you.
