I've loved me some Werenski since he just about single handedly f***ed up our minor league team when he was with Lake Erie but there's no way I touch a dude who is all but packed to go home to Detroit without some guarantees that he's not gonna bolt.
I guess at least he's an RFA after this year and we can pay him, but still, more than a bit scary with where we are at.

The way we built up our RD prospect pool is the same way we are going to build up our left side. Go to the draft with a plan, get BPA for that tier but now target LD men in that tier if you think they have the best upside. Be patient, but also be aware on who's on the market. Keep a pulse on what is going on.
No reason to force trades and rumors that aren't realistic because we rely on a hope that the player is available or wants to sign with us.
Nobody thought Arvindsson was to be traded, expecially to the Kings. No rumor, no buzz at all.
So keep an eye for under the radar D men, sometimes the best trades are the ones that nobody saw comming.

I just don't see how Werenki helps us long term. Short term, while Doughty can still be elite? Sure, but the rest of the team isn't good enough to do anything even with Doughty playing at peak. Werenski isn't going to help that.

Fair, as I do remember reading it from a decent source, but can't find it offhand.
I would say even without that hearsay it's a dangerous game with him RFA, could be a lot of assets to give up for a dude if he doesn't want to do anything but play it till UFA.

Werenski is only 23, and he's a proven 40+ point defenseman who also has a 20-goal season under his belt. I don't see how Werenski can't help the Kings long term. The problem is why would Columbus move him when they're about to deal Seth Jones? That's the part that doesn't make sense.
