Kind of funny how this all shakes down. About 3 weeks ago if we would have been told we'd get Brandt Clarke lots of folks would be jumping for joy. But today now people are less enthused. Which is funny because absolutely nothing has changed in the last 3 weeks. Just goes to show you how things change quickly in the moment.

I'm super stoked! Kid's gonna be special.

What Others Say About Brandt Clarke

Reading the profiles out there on Clarke, there is one thing he undeniably excels at, and that is moving the puck. His ability to breakout, transition, and work the offensive zone are all almost universally highly-touted. His skating is also generally considered high-end, though there are some who have some questions on his form. On defense is where the praise is a little more equivocal, with gap control and one-on-one defense both pretty highly-regarded but some issues with over-commitment and getting out of position being noted. Overall, the profiles project him as a potential top-tier puck moving defenseman in the league.

Being out of position? Perfect fit here.

Kinda sucks that Clarke's biggest knock is his skating is below average. Not an easy thing to improve. Especially for an offensive Dman in the NHL where you need to have good wheels and agility to be successful in the NHL.
An interview with Yanetti prior to the last draft covered skating. He was saying that whilst a lot of skating issues are set by the draft there are certain things they can improve significantly. Beyond that, I know nothing but I’m certain they will have factored it in.

I’ve seen references to his knees knocking together and that can be a strength issue which if so, is fixable. Also, the limited footage I’ve seen show me someone not pretty but seemed effective getting about. I’m no expert on skating though… my entire knowledge base is in this post. :sarcasm:

I do like his passing, IQ and by all accounts (that I’ve read) has great character. So looks a solid pick.

Wonder if the goalies keep falling if Blake tries to get back into the 1st, no idea what they trade though.
The Kings' 2nd and a good prospect is about all another GM would be interested in, I think. Look to Columbus for a deal like this, with their last 1st round pick.

Is anyone really down on Clarke? I preferred Guenther, but am more than fine with Clarke, he's a good pick

Well, one poster said this day was like a wet fart. I just don't get that. It makes it sound like we went off the board and took Hickey. This kid is a Top 2 in upside. What's not to like about that?

I wanted Eklund but this is not a set of steak knives for second place.

NHL GM's don't want to take a goalie high that will take forever to develop that will see the NHL under the next GM

Coronato looks like he has the whole town of Livonia with him in a ballroom at the local Doubletree.

This is considered a weak draft a few good players most will be just meh. Reminds me of 2012. Crossing my fingers we get one of the better players.

You know what it takes to be the GM of a cup winner?
