You should know by now that the Kings are allergic to drafting wingers with great hands and feet.

Yeah Idk why that is. It'd be great to have a winger with speed, hands, and finish. But Kings gonna King.

Kind of funny how this all shakes down. About 3 weeks ago if we would have been told we'd get Brandt Clarke lots of folks would be jumping for joy. But today now people are less enthused. Which is funny because absolutely nothing has changed in the last 3 weeks. Just goes to show you how things change quickly in the moment.

What Others Say About Brandt Clarke

Reading the profiles out there on Clarke, there is one thing he undeniably excels at, and that is moving the puck. His ability to breakout, transition, and work the offensive zone are all almost universally highly-touted. His skating is also generally considered high-end, though there are some who have some questions on his form. On defense is where the praise is a little more equivocal, with gap control and one-on-one defense both pretty highly-regarded but some issues with over-commitment and getting out of position being noted. Overall, the profiles project him as a potential top-tier puck moving defenseman in the league.

I’m thrilled, lots of guys I really like had him at 2-3, definitely satisfies the offensive dman need even if it’s the wrong handedness and his ‘problem’ is the most fixable of all skills, and was definitely arguably BPA.

I know a few guys are miffed because they wanted a winger but it’s not like defense was stacked, particularly OFD.

I'm excited for Clarke, but I was a huge fan of Guenther coming into the draft. You can find comments of mine from weeks ago mentioning that.

Pretty bare at wing after Arty so Guenther would have also filled a need. Also drafted an offensive defenseman in Grans last year. I would have taken Guenther but I know nothing.

Seems like they were going to take defense regardless. Not sure they went BPA on their board but we'll see how this plays out.
They did make the selection with 3 mins left on the clock. They were either locked into D or were thrilled to see him fall. Either way, they got their guy

People who are down on this pick are reaching. This kid was a top 5 in so many lists and fills a need for us. I would have taken this guy over Edvinsson all day long. There were 4 Defenseman predicted to go Top 10 and we got the 3rd best one.
