I think in this kind of Draft you should not pick the "best" available player. It's pretty much a lottery with the amounts of games played. Draft what position you need in the organization. Still can't believe we passed on two promising centers.

Who were the two?

The only real center we passed on is Svech. And he has serious, serious questions about his offense (great defense, though).

Othmann is going to be one of the players who scouts and fans disagree on.

Personally, he wouldn't have been my pick there. I like him as a later pick.

Agreed. But you’d agree that he wasn’t a totally off the board, out of left field selection.

some people are acting like he’s out of nowhere.

Seems like this was the perfect draft to keep drafting centers and hope you hit on one, instead of a guy who even if he blossoms is contract blocked for the next 5 years.

Are you saying you get no credit for landing him when other teams also had openings?
No, just that you don’t need a genius at GM to know it’s a good idea to hire him. Just like you don’t need to be a genius at GM to take Lafreniere at 1, take Kakko at 2 or make Panarin the top paid LW in the league.

Working on the theory that these guys are 2+ years away, if we end up with a signed Zib and Chytil breaking out (not to mention any other moves), wouldn't we then just have redundant player because it's not a need by the time he's ready?

McIlrath was drafting for 'need' and it's still one of the worst blunders we've seen from a Rangers perspective

I thought you dismissed all this since the "top guys aren't there anymore"

If Buchnevich didn’t land us a first in this draft, Ryan Strome is certainly not lol
Rangers took a worse pick because that HAD to have Blais silly.

I’m only half kidding, but logically that must have been how that trade happened right?
