I don’t want a lottery pick in this draft and I don’t know why anyone would. There’s too much uncertainty.

Save the lotto luck for the next 2 drafts. They’re going to be game changerz

There won't be any lotto luck anymore . They are not going to finish bad enough in the next couple of years to even sniff at at #1 pick with the changed rules . if they miss the playoffs it'll be the usual type that is close and those type of teams can't move up into the top spots anymore from next year on

Take your luck when you get it, if you get it. And, we want a long term contender, and it seems like CHI, PIT, etc. only built contenders after getting a few top 3 picks in a row. As noted by some, we are pretty screwed if we somehow keep getting picks in the 13-16 range (along with 30 last year)

If they got no. 1, Owen Power seems like a lock. If they select a forward, not sure how any of those guys actually rank, i.e., MacTavish. Either pick, they will win the players name lottery, LOL.

I do worry a bit about Beniers and Johnson of Michigan. Will they be another version of Scott Glennie, piling up point totals because they are on a good team and play with other good players?

I have my concerns about Johnson. But after watching videos on Beniers I think he’s the real deal

This is a pretty definitive opinion on something that you have absolutely no certainty about.

I’m all for being realistic on expectations, but we’re not looking at the same team if you think they’re incapable of being bad.

Hintz (when playing) and Robertson went absolutely off the wall this year and we still missed the playoffs. Healthy Seguin and yeah I’m inclined to believe we’d probably be in. But we still sucked f***ing horribly most of the season and Seguin is not some proven playoff phenom. He’s average to mediocre in the post-season.

You think he and Bishop get this team back to the Finals? No way in hell.

We’re regressing and just because we had progress from two players didn’t make this team suddenly a perennial contender.

Unless there’s decent adjustments made to our depth what do you think will happen next year?

1 or 2 long-term injuries to certain players would collapse this team.

This team is not in position to get a top 10 pick so the toppicks are out of reach in the new system. Not to mention this team hasn't been worse than 8th worst since 1996 . You presumably watched this team for a while now. Injuries or not they've never bad enough enough for a top pick. They lucked out one year and in the new system that won't be happening again.

You seriously underestimate how bad some teams are especially some of those the Stars have not faced this year at all .

They were 7th worst in 16-17, tied with detroit for 6th worst (7th by virtue of a reg win but same points)

Even during the no budget Newy years the team was never top 10 bad, outside of 1 year. Course they were also never 16-17 bad either

They had the 8th best lottery odds which is what i looked up . I forgot Vegas was added that year . Damn.

Figured that's what it was but i agree with your point.
The team couldnt routinely finish bottom 10 during the bankruptcy years, though Nill has hit a lower mark than those years already, it's not likely to happen again for a few years (when seguin really falls off)

They finished top 10 once during those years and picked Scott Glennie

Anybody thinking the Stars will get a top pick must be new here. They're never getting high picks. They randomly moved up in 2017 but that was the teams highest pick since Modano when the team was still in Minnesota and their only other top5 pick was Ric Jackman in 1996.

Crazy that I have to explain this, but your position in the standings isn’t the end all be all of a team’s capabilities.

You do realize the team that won last years first overall pick was up 4 wins and +16 goal differential on us this season right?

Are the Rangers too good for a lotto pick?

Also, this team has only been here since 92-93. Using our incredibly small sample size of team drafts since then isn’t even anecdotal, it’s just pointless.

Last years lottery was not weighted beyond the 7 teams that didn't get to play in the bubble. All the other teams that missed the playoffs had the same chance to be the pick that ended up #1.

By the way like i said this is the last year where teams that barely missed will have a chance at a top pick. They're changing the lottery rules. You can't move up more than 10 spots anymore starting next years lottery.

If you're a fringe team that barely missed this is your last shot to get a top2 pick. ( they changed that too only 2 teams move up now )

They finished top 10 once during those years and picked Scott Glennie
Right, but it happened once. 4yrs through bankruptcy and we iced teams too good to routinely finish bottom 10.
