Bob Father is releasing his final list today, so we can get an idea of the 3-4 final guys in our range.

I have been reading more draft reports. I noted that Svechkov seems to have the most consistent top 10-20 rankings across several boards, while Stankhoven ranges from top ten to high 40's, for example. It's really a crap shoot, I guess, but there are a few small but talented forwards to choose from.

Another player almost everyone has top 10 is Wallstedt the goalie. If you're not against drafting goalies in the first round, this seems to be the safest pick to be an NHL'er that we could have outside the top ten.

I woke up with a crazy thought this morning - Draft him, LTIR Bishop, and trade Dobby and go with Otter/Waller as your pair, based on talent and low salary, which opens up the cap space to get Jones or other UFA to improve the team. I doubt they would do it, and it is high risk, but probably no higher risk than relying on a hurt Bishop and average Dobby.

This draft is huge for us speculative boyz. I want to know for sure they’ve corrected their goofy ass drafting strategy. If we have another first round pick turn bust or get traded then it’s clear Joe McD is done and the whole amateur scouting department needs an overhaul.

Is he expected to be a 1st rounder? I'd rather target someone with higher upside for a 1st rounder, sounds reasonable for someone in the 2nd, though.

You're going to find comparisons all over the map for all of these guys. Craig Button loves him and compares him to Pavel Datsyuk for example.

I feel like it's more helpful for people to get realistic comparisons rather than their best case scenario. I think it's more accurate to compare
-Lysell to Konecny rather than Ehlers
-Lucius to Toffoli rather than non gritty Perry
-Svechkov to Danault rather than Bergeron

Outside the top 9 skaters, you're going to have to squint pretty hard to see guys with top line/pairing upside and any realistic chance of hitting on that upside.

That's fair, I'm pretty sure a Corey Perry or Bergeron would go 1st in this draft, no questions, so those would be unrealistic. I guess when you describe Danault, I imagine a very solid 3rd line center in an ideal situation, from an impact standpoint, someone like Nick Bonino on the Pens cup winning team. From what I've read, there's not a lot of high end pieces in this draft, but should be a reasonable chance at drafting a top 6/top 4 upside player. I might be a little biased because my immediate association with Danault is that he's about to be overpaid in UFA as if he's more of an all around top 6 center.

Edit: Danault to Datsyuk is wild, I mean, Pavel Datsyuk could f***ing shoot, sure, he was more of a playmaker, but I think had he wanted, he could have easily been a 30 goal scorer regularly. It still stings watching his career highlight reel, half of it is making Marty Turco look like an absolute clown.

I just hope someone reels him in during the draft, it is super annoying having him announce the picks right before they happen, really kills the 20 seconds of suspense you have in between the 5 minutes of commercials.

Bobby boy has McTavish and Edvinsson top 5 now.

Johnson and Lucius 9 and 10 respectively

If the goalies get taken early we might land one of them

My biggest fear is they send the guy up who mispronounces names. We get lucky and Kent Johnson falls to us at 14, but he gets mixed up and announces Brent Johnson, who is ranked as high as 35 and as low as 101st, but hey, he is from Dallas, TX! I wouldn't mind snagging him with the new 3rd round pick, and then, we would get a Dallas born player without paying huge for Jones or Coleman, if that's what they want.

If the draft shakes out similar to McKenzie's list, then I'd hope there is a team in the top 10 willing to trade down to Dallas's spot. Id love to see them trade up for Luke Hughes, so much speed and talent to work with there.

Draft really falls off after the first 9 skaters, Vancouver is in a really enviable position.

Raty rightfully on the 1st round bubble.

Coronato in our wheelhouse, this draft is going to be hectic.

Actual Draft:
1-Lafreniere (same)
2-Byfield (up 1 spot)
3-Stutzle (down 1 spot)

5-Sanderson (up 3 spots)
6-Drysdale (down 2 spots)

They’ve done fairly well the last few years . In a 2017 redraft the stars got 3 top 10 players with miro , Robertson and oettenger . Even guryanov was a top 15 player in his draft .

Kirill Kirsanov is 73 on Bob's list. Man, I have got to stop talking about guys specifically from one country but Kirill Kirsanov in the third round range seems absurdly low for what is a NHL scout consensus ranking.

One of the older first year eligibles and a defensive defenseman so not sexy at all. Having said that, he is incredibly advanced as a prospect. Plays on a juggernaut like SKA in the KHL for Valerie Bragin (total hard ass defensive grinder style coach that favors vets). Mostly on the third pair but he did play over 20 minutes a night on multiple occasions throughout the year including a playoff game. I saw him play a few games at the world juniors this past year. Not my preferred style of defender but I still thought he was the best defenseman on Russia (both in terms of defense and as a puck mover). That is a real accomplishment on a team like Russia in the world juniors where overagers are usually favored.

Ayrton Martino at 48 and Olen Zellweger at 45 would also be a ton of excitement for 2nd round picks. Thought they were considered to be late risers and potentially not available to the Stars, so if either of those guys were available to Dallas in the 2nd round, that would be awesome.

Go do a redraft .
Well i searched and of the multiple i found none of them had gurianov top 15 and none of them had him above Hintz.

He wouldn't go on the first round in a redraft, let alone be top 15 in 2015 of all years

Literally

Mcdavid
Eichel
Barzal
Marner
Aho
Provorov
Werenski
Rantanen
Konecny
Boesser
Meier
Hintz
Cirelli
Kaprizov
Connor
Samsonov
Beauvillier
Carlo
Chabot
Hanifin
Someone would have to rank him above 5 of them to even sniff top 15.

Then you have
Roslovic
White
Eriksson ek
Strome
Cernak
Garland
Nutivaara
Andersen
Debrusk
Who are all above him too. That's what 29 names and I'm missing some
Out of 30 picks
