Fox was a 2nd round pick who wasn't going to play in the NHL until D+2/3 either way, which is very different from a top 3 pick.

The last guy high draft pick who did that was Blake Wheeler, but that was 15+ years ago and he was a total project. Is there someone else I am missing?
From what I understand Fox was probably a 1st round talent with a strong commitment to both college and the Rangers.

I forgot who drafted him but I think he lasted until the 3rd round only because he was a longshot to sign with anyone other than the NYR.

This may be incorrect though.

Gunler at 13 Peterka 23 and a Reichel at 31 on one of the hockey writers blog...

Just saying

A random blogger could have all kinds of dumbass takes and boners for random players, doesnt mean it should be treated as if it is the gold standard of where players were commonly seen at. If you had Bobby Mac or someone making a claim for Reichel at 30-40 maybe your post would be taken seriously.

For example if Musto made a blog on his 2019 Draft rankings and had Zegras and Caufield in the 40s would you take that source seriously?

Anyone have any thoughts on Jack Bar and Vincent Iorio---not really familiar with either of them and heard some decent things----2nd round material?

I'm not that big on Bar. Drafting pure SAH defensemen is always a huge risk, although at least you get the benefit with Bar of four years of college. I like my SAH guys to be able to push the puck not only from the defensive end but through center ice and I didn't see much in the way of those instincts with Bar. Also the Chicago Steel is a terrible place to learn translatable SAH skills, especially for someone jumping from Canadian high school, so there are some pretty big questions about how he will translate with a big jump to the next level. TBH I think he's gonna be a guy like Michael Paliotta where he's drafted mid rounds, plays all four years at college, is the subject of much ballyhoo when he's a free agent, then doesn't do all too much.

Iorio is a much better puck mover and distributor, which I find to be a valuable skill in that style of defenseman. His acceleration isn't where I'd want to it be, but he carries some weight and might be able to get more explosiveness if he leans down a bit. That said, unlike Bar, Iorio worries me a bit as far as his ability to pounce on pucks and force turnovers. While his positioning was sound, he wasn't able to use his size the way that I would to see. He's one of those guys who makes you go hmm, because you can easily see how he hits or how he flops.

Neither are my guy with our 2nd rounder. If we acquire a late 2nd, I can see Iorio. Bar's OK starting maybe late 3rd for me.

Curious as to your potential guys in the second round. In particular, any thoughts on Tyler Boucher and Samuel Helenius?

I'm incredibly intrigued by Coronato. Might be a lazy comp, but I'll take another DeBrincat/Caufield type on my team any day. I can easily see the argument for taking another potential center of the future with there being the possibility Strome is gone, and Toews' health being a concern potentially even with yesterday's good news.
Just watched some video of Coronato and I have no problem if that’s who the Hawks pick. He kind of reminded me of Seth Jarvis who I wanted the Hawks to get

I'm there too now, although I think 11 is still too high I'd be ok with it. He strikes me as one of those types of players that you win with. He's not going to be "the guy" but he plays the game the right way and will be a net positive on the ice.

Ya I’ve read that he is a super hard worker and gives 110% that’s the type of player ( along with those amazing skills) that I want. The only thing that worries me is if he goes to Harvard and wants to stay 4 years. Hard to pass up a Harvard degree.

I’ve never seen him play but what I read makes me see him as an Andrew Shaw type of player. Am I right or does he look to possess way more skills?

I’d be surprised if we get an on the clock this year. Blackhawks probably want as little media attention as possible right now.

Steve comments on this podcast what incredible depth we have on DEFENCE (prospects)
He says we should not even consider drafting more defence .
Btw I would also recommend listening to this if you have 2 hours to spare!

its one guys opinion but he seems to really know the prospects so gives a great overview for people wanting to know more but dont have time to watch these kids.
As said above, he seems to love the hawk’s current pool of defense prospects (and take jabs at the people calling 20 year ild kids busts....)

Yeah it was interesting to hear an outsider have such a positive outlook on the team

Yes I listened to the whole thing and moving back to the true Central and adding only Arizona their is only one real threat and that’s Colorado. The Hawks are in the mix with every other team it’s wide open.

I think it's seven years of service.
You're right, it's 7 years of service or age 27. Age 27 takes precedent over 7 years of service though. It's what allows top picks to reach UFA at 25 or 26 years old if they so choose.

I think you're going to see more superstars go that route because of what's happening to McDavid and Eichel. Look no further than Matthews/Marner, they wised up. Shitty organizations can stay shitty.
I heard Tronna is interested in Hall, like another forward is going to solve their issues lmao.

I'm starting to think along the lines that if some Top 5 player doesn't fall and the Swedish goalie is not available at 11, we trade down---perhaps multiple times in the first and get more assets. Let's build up the Forwards cupboard.

Is that more likely to happen if Wallstedt is available at #11 and he's not high on the Hawks board?
