The hard part for me is that this is now the second season I came away wanting to see more from Raty. Obviously this season was worse than the one before, but I also didn't feel like Raty positioned himself as a top guy heading into this season.
So I feel like I'm left with observations of a very good but not great season, and a disappointing season. It raises the question in my head about how much is actually there and how much is what people hope is there.
If you can live with Raty as a third line center it's not a bad thing. If you think there are some legit top six options on the board, or a potential breakout player, it might get a little more complicated.
I'll use Pinelli, Svechkov and Chibrikov as examples. If you think you Pinelli is going to keep breaking out and Svechkov is near the top of the IQ chart, and both are second line centers, then it becomes a debate. Likewise, if you think Chibrkov could be a 30 goal, 60+ point player in the NHL, it might be harder to come away with a 35 point center.
