No, unfortunately...

With that said, I'm a firm believer that he just had a bad season. He did have flashes of what he could become this season. A skilled puck mover with a good eye for the open ice and net. Can stickhandle like a champ, too. We'll see what happens, but I think he will fall in the 1st round.

I don't think he'll fall out of the 1st, though.
Are we leaning towards Lias Andersson or more towards Anton Lundell?

I have heard that Raty was trending in the right direction by the end of his season and playing more like the guy people thought he would be. For those that would know: true? I wonder if he just had a hiccup in adjusting to a men's league and had to figure out what worked before it started clicking again. If so, he really might be the guy to go after with the Ranger's pick. Man, I don't envy the choice at 15 if Svechkov, Raty, and Lucius are all sitting there. It really is a bit of a gambling tournament this year since players had limited time to play.

The hard part for me is that this is now the second season I came away wanting to see more from Raty. Obviously this season was worse than the one before, but I also didn't feel like Raty positioned himself as a top guy heading into this season.

So I feel like I'm left with observations of a very good but not great season, and a disappointing season. It raises the question in my head about how much is actually there and how much is what people hope is there.

If you can live with Raty as a third line center it's not a bad thing. If you think there are some legit top six options on the board, or a potential breakout player, it might get a little more complicated.

I'll use Pinelli, Svechkov and Chibrikov as examples. If you think you Pinelli is going to keep breaking out and Svechkov is near the top of the IQ chart, and both are second line centers, then it becomes a debate. Likewise, if you think Chibrkov could be a 30 goal, 60+ point player in the NHL, it might be harder to come away with a 35 point center.

I just received my redline report and Kyle has Brett Harrison at #15. I have never seen him that high, thoughts? He has Raty at #34 and Svechkov at #54.

I like Harrison as a late first, but he's way too raw for me at 15. I see a nice player there, if the pieces come together. I don't see a riser who I have to snag.

Raty at 34 is part of the narrative of people having him all over the place. Svech is in the same boat, but 54 is a major outlier.

Damn haha.

After McKenzie's mid-season draft rankings, I had hopes of him finding his way to our second pick.

He mentions that both Harrison and Poltapov will go later then he has them ranked and Raty and Svechkov will go earlier then where he has them ranked. He also has Sillinger at #7

Is Raty’s game well-rounded?

Or, I’ll put it another way. Does Aatu play D, 2?

The criticism of Räty is justified when you're talking about a top-10 selection for a team. He was a highly touted prospect about 12-18 months ago but has dipped a bit. The talent is still there and he has a very complete game. He was just inconsistent this season. I don't think his 2-way game is on the same level as a kid like Svechkov though.

However, when you're talking about the 15th overall pick I think selecting Räty is justified. He's a high upside pick who, if he hits his ceiling, will be a steal at 15.

Unsure if I am allowed to post live streaming hockey game link so if you wish to see live New Zealand hockey games at 4:00 A..M. Eastern time U.S. just type in NZIHL 2021 into YouTube.

Picked up the Black Book, and i now understand why people think so highly of it. Nearly 3 pages worth of PDF on Beniers alone, and this isn't even the final version of the book.

I got the physical copy of the Black Book last year and liked it quite a lot. That way it is a brick though....actually about two bricks. They also give a lot of rundowns of players for coming drafts which is a very nice bonus.

......and as a by the way they loved Schneider.

The more that I learn about this draft class, the more I want to trade back with that 15th pick and grab a second rounder.

Just going by Mackenzie's mid-season rankings (which I know we'll soon get an updated version of), there are a bunch of guys that might slip into the mid to late second that would definitely be worth a half dozen or so spots in the first round. Maybe we wouldn't have our pick of Svechkov, Raty, Pinelli, Chibrikov, or whoever else; but we would probably still get one of them while maybe grabbing another kid like Kapanen, Poltapov, Lukashevich, Stankoven, Mailloux, etc.

I may be falling victim to the shortened season, but a lot of those guys in the second round feel like they have so many extra question marks around whether they're ranked properly or not. Picks in the mid-second to late-third range could have quite a bit of added boom or bust potential to them this year.

Craig Buttons said in an interview last week that Bob McKenzie’s 2021 NHL Final Draft Ranking Show will be released on July 19, 2021 and Craig’s Final 2021 Mock Draft show will air on July 20.
