I feel like they have to, especially not picking in the 1st round for 4 years in a row. That kind of sale can really alter a team's future, as we mostly saw from 2016-2018.

Exactly. We can only hope NYR learned their lesson and don't get greedy and impatient.

We should soon come up with depth charts for the draft!

I can live with the range we're picking at. Many opposing players we hate seeing we're picked around 15.

I still take Pinelli over Raty if Svechkov is off the board.

Most tape I found had him parked on the right wing on the pp, wasn't much to see. Then some U-18 tape, impressive shot. Then this article:

Why a Canadian NHL draft prospect played in Slovenia this season

The kid certainly has big cojones and a heart for the game! Very impressive.

If I am Drury I am making sure we end up with Raty even if he has to trade up a few spots.

Trade the 2022 1st, lottery protected, for a now center this offseason.
Count me out on trading 2022 1st Lottery protected. If the Rangers keep it then it bumps to 2023 and we all no the top two prospects in that draft are franchise changers.
Last year we traded up and we only needed to use a third.
Though I’m all on board for rolling the dice on Raty.

I certainly don't claim to be the best at this sort of thing, but IMO, if everything works out Pinelli could be ROR lite.

I think if we are expecting to be in the running for either Wright or Bedard with our own pick then we have serious, serious problems.

The team has great potential but with that comes fragility.
We are losing Boson and Buffalo and gaining Columbus and Carolina. We still have Washington, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and the other lower state NY team in our division.
In our Conference there is Tampa, Toronto, Florida, Boston and Montreal.
That’s nine teams where there is only room for eight.
Fox, Trouba and Lindgren on defense followed my 1 year and prospect defensemen.
After Igor we have to hope that Georgiev has a rebound year.
One or two key players lose significant time and we are a lottery team.
New coach, new system.
Many time’s developing teams end up taking one step back to take two steps forward.
For me 2022 and 2023 1st round picks are untouchable commodities.
Trading first round picks are luxuries for teams that believe they are going to be winning the cup.

Is anyone here really expecting us to have a top 10 or even 15 pick next year?

Top 16 IS very likely, like it or not.
as noted above, just to make WC would need to pass some of TBL, Canes, Isles, Caps, Pens, Bruins, Leafs, Habs.
Fla under coach Q could be winners again, Flyers could recover to '19-20 performance.
It won't be a shoo-in, it will be an all-season struggle.
Not saying NYR can't earn a playoff spot, but yeah, a late-lottery position would not be an extreme surprise

No one managing the team expects this team to be in the lottery either of those years at this point. Again, if we are then something has gone VERY wrong. I fully expect management to believe this team is a cup contender by the 22-23 season with playoffs or nothing next season.

Nothing is ever guaranteed, but next year is the first season in a while I am actually expecting playoffs and will be disappointed if we are in the lottery.

We shouldn't really. The team will be better just by the changes on the third d line. Couple of rooks are ready to escalate (looking at you Kaapo).

But @cwede reminds us that anything is possible. The conference is stacked. We will have a new coaching staff and if it's Gallant, I'll say it again, it will get spicy. In a good or bad way, will be seen.

Sucks that we'll almost certainly miss out on Bedard, Michkov, Wright, Lambert.

If that is true, that is a problem. Hoping that the team is not a lottery team in the next two seasons is one thing not planning for it is concerning.
Good management should plot and plan for all situation especially since the team as it is currently constructed hasn’t proved anything.
Might have been one of the knocks on the previous regime.
Gorton and Co. didn’t interview Lafreniere until after they won the lottery. Didn’t trade any players even after Igor and Butch’s accident on the eve of the trade deadline.
No one could have predicted these things you say? Good management has a plan for all foreseen and unforeseen situations. That why they are paid. That’s what the monies for. Hope is not a plan.
A good thing I took away from the two interviews that Drury had after he was named G.M./President was that he stated you need to be prepared.

Hope is not a plan.

expectations and wishing are fun. I admire optimism.
but I'd be curious the basis for this, though: "...if we are then something has gone VERY wrong..."

Where is there solid confidence, that this unbalanced team, with a new GM and coach,
is on a certain path to surpass multiple teams among 9 '21 playoff teams, plus another which was 2nd place in their division in '20?

Rangers didn't sign Panarin so that they would be a bottom feeder team in years 3 and 4 of his contract. Dolan didn't just fire Gorton and JD so that his team could be in the lottery the next two years. And the Rangers haven't been collecting assets as a whole, including a young d man who is already a Norris trophy candidate, a young number 1 goalie, consecutive 2nd and 1st overall picks and a league MVP candidate over the last couple of years because they were still hoping for a shot at Shane Wright in 22. They weren't even close to the top pick this season and they played in the hardest division in the league. At worst they are at 15-16 against next year if they did nothing over this next offseason. This team isn't quite a contender yet but its days as a pure lottery team are done.

Less than 240 Regular Season games since the letter.
Why Trouba, why Panarin? Why resign Kreider (Did not agree with that decision)? Not to win now but to take pressure off the kids and give them room and a chance to develop.
The team is still missing the players needed to get them through the stretches when the talent isn’t working and down the stretch when the ice gets smaller before the playoffs.
Imho it’s best not to trade for those players but instead to develop them from within. Camaraderie and pack mentality work hand in hand with players who share the same learning experience; who belong to the same organization from the beginning of their professional careers not hired guns brought in to fight the battles of others.
This takes time and if not forced should pay off with championships. Not failed attempts and mediocrity.

They didn't sign those players to win now THEN. They signed them to win now over the next year forward. That time is now.

Well which ever one of us gets closer to the reality or if it lies somewhere in between as long as it ends in championships for this team I will be grateful for it.
The reality is that if they weren't a lottery team this year playing in the only legit division in the NHL they won't be anywhere near that going forward as players are developed and added.
