Oh, like Montreal? With a 1% chance of winning. That's not being in the lottery. That's like saying we had a 1% chance of winning the cup this year and calling us cup contenders.

Montreal has won the cup this season? They're the 2017 Ottawa Senators of this year, except the Sens actually had to play legitimate teams.Oh, like Montreal?
? They had a 1% shot of winning it. That ain't a lottery pick, sorry, that's a mid round draft pick.View attachment 445438
No thank you… and bad math.
Once you get in the playoffs, you are a contender. Period.Montreal has won the cup this season? They're the 2017 Ottawa Senators of this year, except the Sens actually had to play legitimate teams.
"Anything can happen" which never does. Montreal would not have made the playoffs if this wasn't a fantasy hockey season. With this logic, all the teams that have gotten embarrassed in the playoffs this season were all contenders. They were not. There's maybe 4 teams that could legit win it all. The rest are pretenders, not contenders.Once you get in the playoffs, you are a contender. Period.

On a basic logical level, the playoffs are 16 teams contending for the Cup. If you're one of the 16, you are a contender.
Whether or not the quality of your roster makes you a favorite is a different question.

I was stating trade the 2022 1st for a Center such as Lindholm, Hertl, Larkin, or .... Eichel.2022 is a much, much better draft. Giving up a first from that draft and the 15OA from this one just to move up several spots seems very short sighted.
The 2012 Los Angeles Kings come to mind."Anything can happen" which never does. Montreal would not have made the playoffs if this wasn't a fantasy hockey season. The exception that proves the rule. The 2012 Los Angeles Kings come to mind.
On a basic logic level, the NHL is 31, soon to be 32, teams contending for the Cup. What’s the difference?

Yeah, I caught that too about Lysell. There's a lot of takes that seem way out of touch (like Eklund going No. 1), but they do bring up a great conversation on the topic. Not a bad video, but a lot to be desired.
One thing I did like, though, is that most of them have Wallstedt in their top 5...
Edit: Continuing to listen, their Euro writer/scout saying that Lysell has a ton of off-ice issues, including bullying teammates and not feeling respected. The other scout saying that that stuff could be overblown. Interesting...

If you knew which teams were gonna get embarrassed before they got embarrassed then I'd love to hear how you plan to spend those chips you just won."Anything can happen" which never does. The 4 Stanley Cup Semifinalists finished the regular season 1st (tied), 8th (tied), 12th and 18th in the regular season standings."Anything can happen" which never does. There is certainly also a big lottery element added to winning in the POs. Even the sweeps, it’s close games. Winnipeg had no business beating EDM in the first games IIRC, then EDM folded at the end. Both Washington and STL won a G7 in OT in the first round when they won cups, IIRC. They can play those POs 10 times over in an alternative universe and they certainly don’t win the cup even 5 times each.
You can’t do much more than to put yourself in the running. I also think that it’s essential for a franchise to bot panic if you only come close. You can’t ask for much more than that.
Yeah, no. The fantasy season this year threw everything into disarray. The 4 Stanley Cup Semifinalists finished the regular season 1st (tied), 8th (tied), 12th and 18th in the regular season standings.
Fantasy season or not, that’s pretty random and I’ve seen several higher ranked teams get embarrassed in the last month.
The fact is, if you are in you are a contender.
