The 4 Stanley Cup Semifinalists finished the regular season 1st (tied), 8th (tied), 12th and 18th in the regular season standings.

Fantasy season or not, that’s pretty random and I’ve seen several higher ranked teams get embarrassed in the last month.

The fact is, if you are in you are a contender.
Yes the Blues, Oilers, Jets, Penguins, Leafs all had legitimate shots of winning with the rosters they had.

This season cannot be taken at face value, nor can a good playoff run be completely indicative of a teams actual talent level.

This whole “everyone that makes it is a contender” argument is way over simplified. The real question is, do you want to manage your team so that they make the playoffs or do you want to manage your team so that they are one of the top teams in the playoffs.

It is so obviously the latter. This is why there are buyers and sellers every year. If you legitimately believe “anything can happen”, you’d be a buyer every time as long as you were close to the pack.

I haven’t done the analysis yet, the NHL makes it difficult with the way they seed, but how many times has a six seed or lower won the Cup since the lockout?

It's almost as bad as the whole "Let's replicate this year's Stanley Cup Winner".

Odds to win the title before playoffs

NHL
16th - Predators +4000

NBA (after play-in)
16th - Wizards +24000
15th - Grizzlies + 12000
14th - Knicks +12000
13th - Celtics +11000
12th - Hawks +10000
11th - Blazers +5500
10th - Mavs +4200

WAY OVER SIMPLIFIED!!!

Yeah, I caught that too about Lysell.
I was thinking if someone loves TDA then their gonna love Lysell. Maybe the team can bring back DeAngelo he can room with Lysell.
We can than pickup a later first and draft Zachary L’Heureux and turn ourselves into the 1980’s Oakland Raiders (lol).
On a serious note, if we can’t get Wahlstedt, Lucius, Raty or McTavish at 15 then trade the pick.

Hard no, bud.

I do think trading back is seriously on the table for them, it really depends who is there and what offers are available (like always).

Yeah, Lysell is known to have been a bit of a headcase, similar to Gunler. Interesting to see how that affects his draft stock. Forced his way out of Göteborg basically and moved to Luleå last season.

However, in Luleå he seemed to be back on track. I guess it depends on who scouts are listening to.

It seemed like he didn't respect or like the atmosphere he was in. That will always cause toxicity and hardship, no matter if he was the one causing it or if it were outside sources.

Nonetheless, drama is good bad press, especially ahead of being drafted in the 1st round. We'll see what happens...

I'm a big fan of 2-way forwards.

1. Svechkov
2. Sillinger
3. Räty

I'd love a 2-way F (hopefully C) at 15, and I like this cluster of 3 players, so I'll take your word on it being in this order. You're more reputable than a lot of outlets.

I've seen some of the more questionable draft rankings putting Svechkov in the early second round, which is just silly.
Sillinger is 13ish in every ranking.
Raty is always either 10th or 20th. LOL

Räty is a textbook boom-or-bust pick for whoever takes him. Svechkov is a late riser like Kravtsov. Sillinger is tough to pinpoint though but the talent is there.

No need to trade up this draft unless Beniers drops somehow...

Next year is the year to trade up/have multiple picks.

I LOVE Johnson, MacTavish, and Lucius in this draft, and I would explore a trade up for one of those 3. Obviously, there's no guarantee that there is a deal out there so it's the least likely outcome.

That cluster at 15 might get us a really good player that could be an easy fit. This is probably the most likely outcome.

If it goes:

Power
Beniers
Guenter
Hughes
Edvinsson

Eklund
Clarke
Johnson
MacTavish
Lucius

Wallstedt
Svechkov
Sillinger
Raty

And then we've missed out on 7 players in a row that we would "love to have," and no one "falls to 15." I'd rather add a small something to move up and guarantee one of those guys, but if that's the top 14 picks, then I basically "don't want #15."

I'm rooting for a Lambos, Chibrikov, or Lysell or something go top 14 so that we can just chill at our spot. No muss, no fuss.

Sweet list. I’m hoping Lucius drops because he only played 20 or so games. Kid has a lot of talent.
I would be ecstatic if we came away with him or Raty
