To follow-up on my previous post, here are some noticeable differences between CSB and Bob's sampling of scouts from a few weeks back. Some conversations I have are much, much closer to what Bob reported on. For example:

CSB has McTavish second for NA Skaters. McKenzie has him 11th overall.

Johnson is ranked third by CSB, ahead of a bunch of names that I've consistently heard as being higher on teams lists and reflected in Bob's rankings.

Guenther is ranked second by Bob, and that reflects a trend I saw where teams had him ranked significantly higher than third party observers. CSB has him sitting fifth among North American skaters.

CSB has Othmann 8th. McKenzie doesn't even have him in the top 20.

CSB has Wyatt Johnson at 16, just behind Pinelli (24th on McKenzie's list and a potential riser beyond that in talking with others). He's 52nd according to McKenzie's survey.

Colton Dach is 19, ahead of names like Dean and L'Heureux. Those guys were surveyed at 27 and 32 for McKenzie. Dach was surveyed somewhere around a third round slot.

There are always differences --- but these significant. I really can't wait to see where Bob's list goes from here.

Made a bunch of trades in draftsim. Thought this was a good mix of playmaking, 2 way, and beef.

I like using the McKenzie rankings for the Draftsim, players seem to be drafted in more realistic positions.

I usually trade down a couple times with teams like Winnipeg/Minnesota/Columbus and target Svechkov, Raty and L’Heureux with 2 picks in the first round using picks acquired in those trades

I like Minny and Montreal as trade down partners. Montreal has the #50 pick, I'll take it for a drop to #18.

I think this also proves the inability to truly scout because of the pandemic. Like I, and most, have been saying from the get-go this draft is going to be quite unpredictable, which honestly will make for a great viewing experience.

I just wish that this year in particular we could be in a position to draft beniers. I dont know how (we aren't winning the lottery three years in a row), but I would just love to see this kid in a ranger uniform

This could be a really exciting draft for us with those two 3rd round picks and three 4th round picks we have. If they've done their homework, they should be able to get great value in those rounds in such an open draft.

I've heard NYR might be willing to trade down, so we'll see. Those mid-round pick will be nice to have to move up/down, anyways.

I believe these are the picks right now...

1st -- 15th
2nd -- no picks
3rd -- 64(buffalo), 79
4th -- 103 (LA), 105 (Ott), 111
5th -- 143
6th -- 175
7th -- 207

1st -- Goalie
2nd -- No pick
3rd -- Medium sized guy with medium talent
4th -- Big guy can't skate, big shot, can't pass
5th -- Small guy can skate, can't shoot, can pass
6th -- Goalie
7th -- Cronyism

:sarcasm:

Thanks!

I've done, perhaps 20 or so sim drafts over the last three weeks. This morning, I got my first Rangers lottery win (2nd place). Just got an expletive filled text from Stevie Y; those guys at draftprospectshockey really went all out with their simulator!

To trade from 15th to the late 1st you mean? I would be fully on board with that. If there was ever a draft to do it, this is the one!
I agree. I like L’Heureux with our first this year if we keep it, and it looks like he might be available later in the round. Here’s a mock I just did:

I wouldn't mind taking a late round flier on Connor Trenholm from Cape Breton. Good size, not a lot of points (about 20 pts in 37 GP) but played on a terrible team, has captain-like qualities.

Those extra third and fourth round picks along with Buch and Strome are very good ammunition to makes moves either in the Expansion or Entry Level Draft.

Trenholm took 3 years off as a precaution because of a possible heart condition, but has been medically cleared and had a nice season.
