I'm going to learn about three or four prospects for the coming draft today. Assuming we pick around 20th, who would you guys recommend in that range right now?

That is really hard to answer right now because most lists are even more subjective than usual.

But, broadly speaking:

Sillinger is a name I like as a support goal scorer.

L’Heureux has emerged as my favorite prospect not named Beniers this year.

And to add to this, I went off of my own personal list, both of your names I have in my top 20 so i didnt use them

It’s so hard for me to suggest names, because like you I find myself putting some names higher.

The Rangers were and still are paying particularly close attention to the Q this season. Not just because it the only CHL league to see some action thus far, but because they think that could be the next league to find emerging talent.

At the very least, a lot of the Q kids are likely to at least be under pretty careful evaluation by them.

I have to agree I think the Q will have good value this draft.

Sitting last in the East. who we taking in the top 5 this year?
Power or Beniers. I kinda hope Power for positional need but Beniers is going to be a hell of a player so I truly wouldn't be upset with either.

Edit: I just realized how silly the above statement was because center is truly where we need help, but I also think that our center solution is going to come from trade, and having a young left dman who has first pairing potential is something I wouldn't pass up at this point, and would give us the ability to trade from strength to fix our other issues.

Lindgren looks to be our long-term 2nd pair guy on the Left, and i know its only been 5 games, but miller looks like that 1LD spot is all but his. I'm comfortable with Robertson/Jones as potential options for 2 and/or 3LD for now, that i don't know if i would spend the draft capital on another shot when we definitely need to plan for post-Mika at center.

I agree, but my feeling is that this is going to be dealt with via trade. Even if it was Beniers, he wouldn't be able to fill Mika's shoes for quite some time.

In the top 5, one of Power, Clarke or Beniers is the way to go, IMO. Wallstedt could be an option, too.
Out of the top-5, Wallstedt would be an easy pick for me.

Looking at things realistically, players like Pastujov, Silinger & L’Heureux come to mind.

I think L'Heureux would be a great fit with what we're trying to build. Pastujov is a tempting prospect whose playmaking and confidence with the puck is certainly near the top of the draft. Sillinger would be the goal-focused prospect some fans have been clamoring for.

If we end up with a top-5 pick, things have to go very weird for us to not walk away with one of Power, Johnson, Beniers, Lambos, Edvinsson or Clarke.

Wallstedt is a great goalie prospect but are we really in a position where we take that leap?

Oh, I agree. If the season goes off the rails and there is a top-5 pick, then yes, I would not take Wallstedt top-5. But as I do not believe (still) that there will be a top-5 pick, I believe that Wallstedt would make for a great pick. But he will be gone by the time the Rangers draft.

So is this going to be a draft where certain teams keep trading back bc they believe they have looks at players who other teams may not be as aware of? I think it will be fascinating to see how this plays out.

Beniers is just as much of a positional need as Power.

Beniers would be great talent to add and fit the organization like a glove. Having said that, I think we'll start climbing the standings.

bud, this is not the time to speculate anything fits in this organization like a glove lol.

It would be interesting to see but one of the things I've heard is that some teams rather just pick their player slightly higher rather than risk losing out by trading down. When the reward is a 3rd round pick or lower, is it really worth the risk?

It would depend on the team's situation. Where they are in their build, how many picks they have etc
