Ya I was jk lol that’s the pipe dream. Also Kowar is unrealistic was just hoping. I feel like I’d trust Bloom to make the decision though

I’d love Kowar too lol

I think it’s likely the Mets prospect is ranked higher than the Royals prospects, but I think they’re all lower minor guys that will grade out in our teens/20’s/possibly 30’s just because they are so far away

Look at it this way- Lee is gonna be what? Between 6 and 9 for them probably? They gave up a prospect in the 30 range- they had to have given up something significant to make up the difference. Plus the Sox knew Zack Scott really liked Khalil Lee from his time with the org, so this is a guy Scott would be bullish on getting

I feel like my assumption on the PTBNLs is Ben Hernandez and an international signing from the last couple years that's outside the top 25 from Kansas City and then Robert Dominguez from the Mets.

Basically, you've got Benintendi for Cordero, two 10-15 prospects, and two 25-35 prospects.

that would be my ideal realistic return as well

that doesn’t sound like a bad package. Been going to MLB.com and their prospect pages to see what the write ups on these guys are. Is that site reliable or are there better alternatives for prospects? Here’s what MLB said on Hernandez, Winckowksi and Dominguez.

Ben Hernandez:

Though Hernandez doesn't have much projection remaining in his strong 6-foot-2 frame, he makes the most of his present stuff and has advanced feel for pitching. His delivery features little effort and he repeats it well. He has a higher floor and the chance to move more rapidly than a typical prep pitcher.

Robert Dominguez:

The Mets believe they found a steal in Dominguez, who will pitch at age 18 for all of 2020. He will need to develop a changeup and continue to add strength, though the final product could be a big league starter with electric stuff.

Josh Winckowski:

The potential is there for Winckowski to become a back-end starter or a long reliever in the big leagues. He has good feel on the mound and some deception in his delivery. Relatively young for where he’s played, Winckowski has performed well over his last two seasons and is a player to watch.

If that was the package, I feel that’s a great jumpstart to getting the pitching prospects going.

MLB.com is ok. I feel like they tend to overrate recent draftees. Fangraphs is really the only other option that's not behind a paywall, but they tend to be really conservative in their projections. In terms of paywall, there's Keith Law at The Athletic. He tends to have strong takes and goes against the grain. I think Baseball America has the best prospect analysis, but there's enough options out there that I've never paid for a subscription from them.

We're lucky that we have soxprospects.com. I'm not sure there's another team out there that has as good a prospect site.

Hernandez could move pretty quickly, he’s got a great changeup. Getting him and Dominguez would be a boon. The Mets also have a few other pitchers in their teens that are far away but interesting. Dominguez is just the most enticing

Interesting. So the Sox actually received Lee from the Royals and decided to flip him to the Mets. It makes me think they have to get a serious prospect from the Mets. Lee was ranked #8 in a better farm system.
They can probably choose between Santos and Dominguez.

From what I've read, at one point Santos was touching triple digits with his fastball, but in 2019 in the Appalachian League, he was sitting 89-93.

Maybe the Sox want to take a look at him to see if the velocity has returned? If he's throwing 98 when the season starts, they take Santos, and if he's throwing 91, they'll take someone else???

After the Sox drafted him, it was felt he could reach the majors in 1-2 years, so far, that has been a swing and a miss.
Hope he can find his stuff this year and is a Sept call up.

stuff took a step back when they tweaked a couple of things. The velo is seemingly coming back and he’s back in the 93-96 range. I think he’ll ultimately end up a solid middle reliever, I don’t see him being a future closer like initially thought

Hmmm...

Trevor Rosenthal is still out there...

I figured it would be Kela given the lack of money but something they could do is spend money on Rosenthal, go over the luxury tax, and re-assess where they’re at mid-season. If they feel they don’t have a legitimate shot at winning then they can deal off a few guys (including Rosenthal) and dip back under that luxury tax threshold

Very interesting- Mets must have big time liked Lee
