Lots of people here seem to not know what they actually want. They want the team to spend money but have no chance of the player being a bust.

Hanley and Sandoval were consensus top 5-10 free agents when signed. Price, arguable the #1 free agent when signed. It’s pretty easy to say in hindsight the money would have been better spent on Scherzer and Greinke instead but everyone at the time was happy as can be until it didn’t work out and the same people hollering to spend money, years after the fact, are the ones saying “..... well not on THAT guy”. And in 5 years if Mookie is hitting .255 with no pop they’d be saying “see I told you that was an awful deal, should have dealt for prospects when he still had value!”

you may not like the Red Sox model but it’s proven to be successful even with some trash years inbetween. This whole “dodger east” thing is weird as well, because if the Sox lost 2 WS in a row it would be the same exact complaints because the team can’t get over the hump.

but I know....... holding them accountable! (By complaining on a message board....?)

Because the Red Sox should be a team that has the resources to contend AND fill up their farm system, but John Henry only spends enough to do one and spend the rest on Linda. That's why.

I already said I’m giving Bloom the benefit of 2-3 seasons to see if he can have a Friedman-like effect here. The Dodgers right now are probably going to repeat as WS champs and they have the assets to acquire pretty much any player in the league if they wanted to. Meanwhile we have people in this thread, one who unsurprisingly just liked your post, saying they don’t give a shit about Bloom’s move for A and AA guys.

They gave Mazza a poison pill split contract of sorts where I believe they’re guaranteeing Mazza 800k- this was done in an effort to get him through waivers more easily. They did it with Yairo Munoz too

It’s a big market team flexing their money in a different way than what we’re used to seeing from the Sox. Instead of going out there and throwing big contracts at guys who are mostly trending down within a year or two of signing they are throwing it into trades to get better returns and throwing it at depth guys to make sure we aren’t stuck in a situation where we are trotting Matt Hall out there ever again. It’s stuff you’d never see the Rays do

so I know- not exciting- but they’re spending to the luxury tax and using the dollars they have in creative ways

I can tell you that I was adamantly not happy. I hated those signing and knew they were going to blow up. No Monday morning quarterback here.

The Orioles signed Matt Harvey, which prompted me to refresh my memory on the time he got suspended for the ol' adult toy in the locker prank. What I learned now that I never knew before: It was Kevin Plawecki's locker that he put it in.

I wonder if we’ll ever hear the list of four prospects the Sox can pick from before Bloom makes his decision.

I hope Kowar, Isbel and Carlos Hernandez are on it

that definitely won’t get out, the royals wouldn’t want to alienate the guys that don’t get picked

I think the guys they get will be further away from the bigs
