Marwin is the definition of replacement level. Which I guess means that you could do a lot worse. But still, unexciting.

More on this from CBS Sports:

Granted "rival executives" are not privy to Boston's thinking, but, yes, this tracks. The trade of Andrew Benintendi to the Royals leaves a hole in the outfield, and Bradley would capably fill it. Bradley, who remains a defensive asset in center, is coming off a 2020 season in which he put up an OPS+ of 118 in 55 games. For his career, he owns an OPS+ of 94 across parts of eight big-league seasons. Bradley turns 31 in April and has spent his entire professional career with the Red Sox. Needless to say, his return would please a Red Sox fan base that's been disaffected by recent cost-cutting moves by the franchise.

I wouldn't say Gonzalez is great, but "replacement level" is a little rough.

Depending on how he's used, he's a decent bet to give them 1.5-to-2.5 WAR.

To put it another way... I'd rather have him than Michael Chavis.

Maybe he'll hit well in this lineup. Not a bad move for a utility player. He could come through in a clutch situation.

I love Red Sox made this move right after brady won. Fans and media are mad and they can take it out on this FO trying to sell us a losing non competing team.
Yeh they are rioting in the streets

Concern with ownership is whether they can allow Bloom to complete his plan and not make him half ass it after a few poor seasons.

You hired Dombrowski. You benefited from his risky “all in” management and won a WS with it. You now have to deal with the consequences of having no farm system and struggling to compete without spending money. It’s not a stable scheme for long term success. Imagine if they didn’t win? Ouch.
Who are all the impact players Dombrowski traded

I got Moncada

Kopech is a mess

Is there a second ?

It will be interesting to see how it turns out

One thing I’m confident about is Bloom won’t be giving Rusney Castillo $72 M, Sandoval $85 M, Hanley $100 M, Mike Cameron $20 M

that alone has me very happy with Bloom

So you would rather the Red Sox be run like a small market outfit? You would rather the Red Sox be like the Tampa Bay Rays and put out an unbearable and unwatchable product to scrape by with 85 wins instead of doing both (a la the Dodgers) and paying for elite talent when necessary? I dunno about you but I miss the days when Theo would expect no player on the starting 9 is below average and would pay when he had to so that was the case.

I'd rather Chavis. At least he is still an unknown commodity and has more of a ceiling. Marwin is done growing as a player. I can live without having more 30 plus year old utility guys on the f***ing Red Sox.

Sox are basically forfeiting the season with talent like Devers and Bogey in the lineup, but lets here more about the double AA team for 5 years, gutless quitter attitude

They have the 6th highest payroll in the league and 2nd highest for the luxury tax, just $6 million below the threshold. That's not being run like a small market. Gone are the days when you could spend whatever you wanted. There are serious luxury tax penalties and there's not a team in the league who's willing to pay them long-term.

They've spent over $30 million on new players this year. I'm sure you wanted them to sign Realmuto or Springer. I did too, until they finished as the 4th worst team and would have to give up their 2nd round pick, which had a $1.85M bonus slot last year. For a team that's not a contender, that would have been really dumb.

They f***ed up their payroll under Dombrowski and they're in the middle of fixing it so they can contend long-term (a la the Dodgers). The goal is to be the Dodgers, but you don't get there in just 1 or 2 years. That's how bad the situation Bloom took over was.

If you polled most GMs I doubt they a feeling bad for Bloom and his horrible situation he took over

What I don’t get in here is the bashing of trying to build a farm system. The best team currently in the league also probably has the best farm system in the league which is likely going to make them a juggernaut for the next 10-15 years
