OT: 2021 Football Thread - Part II

Telling stat at the end of the broadcast on the incompetence of New York football. The Jets and Giants are 1-19 in the first 2 weeks of the last 5 seasons.
 
Lawrence with 4 picks today as well.

This is not to say Wilson won’t bust (he might—way too soon to make any declarations either way). This is just to say starting rookie QBs is more about selling tickets and jerseys than about player development or winning games.

Justin Fields also had an awful game today as well.

The main thing takeaway, way too early to declare Fields, Wilson, and Lawrence as busts.

Agreed; NFL and NHL have both started fast tracking players into big spots at a younger age. Cap world.

There have been a lot of recent first year phenoms so now the norm is everyone is expected to do it. Not everyone has that learning curve of the personnel around them to be great instantly.
 
I've been truly loving the Eli/Peyton broadcast. I watched the game last night until the very end when before P&E I'm not sure I would have watched any of it. I thought Gronk was hilarious and McAfee was great too... clearly he had some money riding on the game.
 
Gronk was awful and his commercials suck. McAfee was great, though and yeah watching the reactions of these guys when they have money on the game is good TV.

Just for the record, this was my initial advice.
I then said, ok, if someone is willing to pay enough, move Darnold.

I stand by what I said and since I take a lot of crap from everybody all the time, let's not be shy about when it emerges that I was right, as I am more than many here give me credit for.

Yes, everything usually has a price.
We would not have a superspeed burner wideout and we might not have AVTucker
but
If we were careful we could have wound up w/Sewell and Wilson
more if we wanted to really gamble and go Sewell + Jones + instead of Wilson.

Now I did not go there and it is too early to crucify Wilson.
But NO ? we should have overpaid to get Sewell and then either Bekton opposite T or next to Sewell at G.


Now, can I please have a full vote of confidence from everyone on trying Kravtsov at pivot?

I was against drafting Sewell at 2 but in favor of keeping Darnold and trading down a few spots to draft a top WR.
 
Who’s watching Darnold tonight? Good chance to go 3-0 considering it’s Houston and they’re starting some nobody at QB. Carolina D is fierce and Darnold has been playing well .

If the Giants lose to this godawful team, Gettleman should be fired tomorrow morning. Don't wait until the end of the year and give the new person time to prepare for which direction to bring the team in the offseason.
