I'm not here to say MM is better than Vatrano. I complained about MM for weeks.

I think the team is better off without Vaterano taking up a spot and $3M in cap. Happy to see Zito agrees.
The team likely just wants more financial stability going into next season. Vatrano is going to get norths of $3 million unless he shits the bed this year and the Panthers likely don't want to pay him that.

My guess is Zito wants someone who Seattle could select, so he'll ship Vatrano to the Kraken for that player who likely has term on their contract giving the team a clearer view going into a massive summer next year.

Maybe Wennberg is coming back? He could shift to wing as he's better defensively than Vatrano and scored 17 goals.
Even if he trends down to 15 goals/35ish pts in a season, you add he can still play C if Lundell falters for a stretch.
He'd come in around $3mil x 2-3 years?

Verhaeghe - Barkov - Deni
Huberdeau - Bennett - Tippett
Wennberg - Lundell - Duke
Marchment - Acciari - Hornqvist
Lomberg

All 3 young forwards are sheltered with two vets. Yes if March got 1st line minutes, Deni might as well.
Move Vatrano + pick for a defenseman who has one year left.

with regard to lines, he doesn't have to generate anything when playing with barkov. and when you add another player who's dangerous as well, those two could probably score with a pylon for a line-mate. (another stretch there...)

That's the thing; it's just a dumb move to arbitrarily put a guy on the top line who "doesn't have to generate anything" when you could add someone skilled who could be a force multiplier to a guy like Barkov. Like I said before, the best 4th lines are able to wear down opponents throughout an entire 60 minutes to give your top line an edge. Grinders don't have to literally be on the top line necessarily to 'create space.'

in any case, that line produced and the team did Ok so i don't get why everyone is so insistent that it never happen again.

We lost. When you lose you have to analyze what you've done and try something different. Just because they 'did OK' doesn't mean performance shouldn't be improved.

No, but guys like Lammikko and Luostiraninen or whatever just don't seem to figure into the long-term plans. Decent 13th forward types who can step up once the injury bug inevitably bites but just not good enough one way or another to be long-term fixtures.
I wouldn’t be so sure about Luos. Last year was his first year.

I'm happy, no roster player lost, Driedger gets paid

edit-just for anyone out of the loop, Driedger is a Panther until the 28th, expansion draft is the 21st, so picking him covers Florida. The reported Vatrano to kraken deal is something else.

You realize Vatrano was playing in the playoffs, right? The ones we just got roughed up in. He was there. Every game. He created almost nothing. He doesn't play an overly physical game. He isn't a good defensive player. He shoots the puck right at the goalie most of the time. His passes aren't crips. Vatrano was a complete ghost in the playoffs. Shedding players like Vatrano is exactly what we should be doing in a flat cap world.
I think he was injured.

According to Seravalli, Adam Larrson is available and will hit the UFA market.

Could be a good add for us. Tho, I haven't watched Edmonton in ages.

Wouldn't listen to him, sounds like Larsson already has a deal waiting in EDM, 4yrs x $3.9 mil per no?
And doesn't make sense to move Vatrano + 3rd for a 6th, he has value and just needs an add or two to bring back a better forward or a top 4 D.

Sounds like Zito has a couple of things in motion with Vatrano and also Stralman if the ARI deal is still open.

Very interested to see how the rest of the offseason plays out. Barkov and Bennett contracts especially
