not every useful player has to score 100 points

Yeah, I'm excited because I think in a year or two he could already be there, especially if the first year he tears up the AHL and second year he comes onto the 3rd line spot.

Given where we drafted him and all the tools he has, I could see us being happily surprised with him being at 2/3 line tweener.

Looking back over the last 15-20 years that I’ve closely followed this team, I’m truly amazed at the glut of high quality defensive prospects this organization has acquired. A guy like Jones, not long ago, would have been this teams #1 defense prospect. He’s behind:
Fox
Lindgren
Miller
Lundkvist
Schneider

All of those guys are 23 or younger. That doesn’t include a guy like Robertson either. Just truly amazing. And to think a guy like Gordie Clarke, who for all his misses, has been here to help guide the team acquiring all of them.

Could you imagine a defense in 2 or 3 years of.....
Robertson - Schneider (Shut down pair)
Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Lundkvist

No one has to get over extended Fox and Lundkvist handle the PP, the other 4 the PK manage everyones minutes so nobody needs to play crazy minutes. They all can play between 18-22 minutes. Would be a very rare situation

I still don't understand the Jones hype ... I'd be pretty bummed out if he was our #1 defensive prospect.

I think it's getting slightly oversold how we'd be "so thrilled if he was our #1 prospect ten years ago," - yeah, I might, he might have been, but that's how bad our prospect system was, not how great it is now.

Our system is great, but it's already graduated a lot of pieces and it's probably inching towards just good at the moment.

Jones is a very nice defender prospect but he's a second pair player in the long run even if he pans out. I'm not tripping over myself with superlatives.

That is also my favourite D line-up ... dat Robertson-Schneider pair makes me giddy.

he’s a nice player imo. If all the Rangers defensemen were stay and home i think we would be thrilled with Jones. Imo, he just blends in b/c the Rangers already have Fox and probably Nils.

Jones is our least appreciated prospect.

I say this as someone who thinks he doesn't have a future with this team. He's going to be a good player in this league.

I bet Jones becomes better than Miller in the long run. I see a lot of Staal in Miller.. With Schneider Robertson and Lundkvist I’d send Miller in a trade for a young center with a future here after the Rangers know what they got with Schneider Robertson and Lundkvist .

I'll gladly bet against that. Trade Strome for a two-way center.

Sorry I missed the Barron talk Tuesday. I didn't get to watch last year because I don't have AHL.tv but based on my 3 years of watching him I think @Edge had it right when he says Kevin Hayes lite. Barron's a lot more offensively gifted than I thought based on his freshman year, but he's still probably not skilled enough to be in a good team's top 6. I do think he's a bit less passenger than many people here do, due to a high hockey IQ and a very good competitive edge. I'd love to see him on the Rangers this year, but he probably needs more work at center, and I would imagine he would be one of the first callups if he starts in Hartford.

I think the second line probably causes some of the first.

Right now, when you survey the landscape it tends to feel like Jones' future is likely elsewhere. I think that probably prevents people from falling too much in love with him.

Jones is kind of in the same boat as guys like Robertson, Othmann and others. He's easily in the top 10, but he's not quite at the very top of the list of young talent people are watching. So he kind of becomes one of the "middle children" for the organization right now.

Kaapo has really been hitting the weight gain 4000. Hopefully, his legs keep up with his growing upper body.

Pump up of the value for Jones, since he will probably be included in a trade… if the rangers are still 2-3 years away from really competing make fox available and keep Jones And Lundy as replacements.. if some one want fox they will need to take trouba or keider off our hands as part of the deal..

In terms of energy level and work ethic on the ice he reminds me of cally as a rookie. Always moving but to exactly where he needs to be to give the opposition trouble

LOL. We're not trading Fox.

Stop.

I don't necessarily agree with the assertion that he's not skilled enough to be in a good top-six. I think he has the right kind of skill set to be a good complimentary forward in the mold of a guy like Alex Killorn. Is he going to be among the 6 most skilled forwards on the team? Likely not but I think there's potential for him to be perfectly capable of playing with skilled players and putting up points.

With the talent we have on the wings I don't think we necessarily need a play-driving center on every line. If Barron keeps progressing he could slot in extremely well at 3C behind Chytil and Zibanejad or he could play that Killorn-type of role where he bounces around the top-9, giving lines different looks when needed.

Let’s make our Norris Trophy winning defenseman available for a trade. Brilliant
