I'd say the middle two lines in white and the bottom line in red (including Bourque) are probably already done.
Foerster drew the last chance card.

In fact I would not be shocked at all if McMichael Dach Cozens Zary Mercer Tomasino Quinn Byfield Rees Holloway Krebs Pelletier Perfetti Newhook is the final 14.

Even though I think Foerster is the odd man out on those five lines, I'm not reading Perfetti and Newhook as the spares
Might be more a case of Cozens/McMichael Byfield/Quinn Krebs/Holloway and Perfetti/Newhook being looked at as pairs, checking out what Zary and Tomasino do without Dach, and the others being slipped in around those guys to see how they fit.

Dach can slide pretty easily between Tomasino and Zary again, or with Newhook and Perfetti.

I think the coaches are very close to their decisions.

Does anyone know if historically the lines are any indication of who will play together and who is likely to make the team? I.e. the higher in this lineup card, the better your chances?

I thought the same thing on seeing it, the players who I thought were least likely to make it all seem to be playing together. They only have two scrimmages and some practices, the HC already said a lot of guys are rusty (again). They have a very short amount of time to make cuts and I think you're bang on with your final forward roster right now. I think maybe Jarvis and Poulin are also still in the mix, but I think you're right about the favorites.

A lot of the time the lines that get released don't even match what gets put out on the ice for that particular game/practice, especially in terms of who plays centre or whichever wing.

Disappointed to hear that.

I still think, between the Red/White games, 2 exhibition games and 4 round robin games, Canada should peek in time for the quarters.

Even with no practice, worst case, I can't imagine this team finishing lower than 2nd in their pool.

Eh what JackSlater thinks may have absolutely no relation to what happens on the ice. I would be pretty surprised if Canada didn't finish first in its group given the makeup of that group, but that isn't the goal by any stretch.

If I'm picking the forwards, I'm taking:
  • Three drivers: Byfield, Cozens, Dach
  • Three playmakers: Newhook, Perfetti, Krebs
  • Three finishers: McMichael, Quinn, Tomasino
  • Three warriors: Holloway, Mercer Rees
My last two spots would probably go to guys who bring a lot of one particular element, so I can insert them as a wake-up call (Poulin size, Jarvis speed, for example).

In general that looks about right though nothing is so binary. I think that they will likely build around the key pieces at centre and then build a good energy/defensive fourth line.

Personally, I wouldnt be surprised to see Perfetti cut or used as the extra foward... His bad skating and lack of size were pretty apparent in those scimmages, not sure how he fits on a team ran by André Tourigny, kid is highly skiled nobody doubting that, but he is prone to make lower % plays at times because of his skating\size limitations...
pretty sure his zone entry data over those 2 games was the best on the team. I like having him on the team .. he can make plays in the ozone , find the open man , deliver the puck and he can score. I don't think he'll be limited by his skating.

Some of the lines already changed

Perfetti now with Bourque/Rees
Holloway with Newhook/Pelletier
Garand starting for White
Byram-Drysdale back
Quinn-Byfield-Krebs

There has also been nothing wrong with his skating either. He's not trailed the play in either game at all.

Perfetti with Bourque and Rees seems like a weird line. Also having the 2 NCAA guys playing together is interesting , if the line performs well they should both make it, if not then they can both be cut together . Those are pros and cons of playing them together

I think the more apparent part of these lines is who's on the outside looking in.

Beckman-Goncalves-Clarke
Lapierre-Schwindt-Wright

Hard to say what their plan is but would imagine these are the players fighting to stay alive this game
These guys must be feeling a ton of pressure. They can see the other lines stacked with locks and near-locks the same as we can. If you’re in this position, you know you pretty much HAVE to have a monster game to avoid the chopping block. Tough to play that way.

My preference would be Ryan O'Rourke, but he didn't look terrific in those first two intrasquad games.

Truthfully, none of the other 'D' options really did. I might be inclined to go with 15 forwards and 7 D, giving Shane Wright that extra spot just for experience heading into next year.

But if you're asking for my prediction, I'll say Justin Barron. A little older than the other three options (Cormier, Sebrango, O'Rourke). His skating could be an asset at both ends. He has played for Canada internationally twice before, performing well at the Hlinka in his draft -1 year.
You really don't think Serbango looked good in the two inter-squad games?

I was watching Team White defense like a hawk, and I thought he was one of the best defenders on the team.
