With Hunt being cut already, who do you have taking his spot?

My preference would be Ryan O'Rourke, but he didn't look terrific in those first two intrasquad games.

Truthfully, none of the other 'D' options really did. I might be inclined to go with 15 forwards and 7 D, giving Shane Wright that extra spot just for experience heading into next year.

But if you're asking for my prediction, I'll say Justin Barron. A little older than the other three options (Cormier, Sebrango, O'Rourke). His skating could be an asset at both ends. He has played for Canada internationally twice before, performing well at the Hlinka in his draft -1 year.

I'm a lot more pessimistic with the team since the pre-tournament games were cancelled. Dach seems potentially iffy now too. Player to player I like the team better than the competition but the lack of games heading in is an issue, plus the goaltending situation is dicier then it's been in a while.

I would have to think with the NHL moving ahead Dach may not be available. He will be a key player for Chicago this season.
The way they were talking on TSN last night sure didn't make it sound like Dach is leaving. All he would end up missing is the first 5 days of camp and then come in better game shape then...well every other player there.

That's how I interpreted it too. It also seems like Dach told the Blackhawks he really wanted to play in this tournament. I can't see them going back on that now that NHL games don't start until after the tournament finishes.

If I'm picking the forwards, I'm taking:
  • Three drivers: Byfield, Cozens, Dach
  • Three playmakers: Newhook, Perfetti, Krebs
  • Three finishers: McMichael, Quinn, Tomasino
  • Three warriors: Holloway, Mercer Rees
My last two spots would probably go to guys who bring a lot of one particular element, so I can insert them as a wake-up call (Poulin size, Jarvis speed, for example).

Disappointed to hear that.

I still think, between the Red/White games, 2 exhibition games and 4 round robin games, Canada should peek in time for the quarters.

Even with no practice, worst case, I can't imagine this team finishing lower than 2nd in their pool.

Chicago seems to like sending players to WJC. In the past theyve sent players who were on the fence between AHL/NHL like Jokiharju and Boqvist whereas certain teams probably wouldve kept them.
dach isnt a bubble player like those others but it helps canada this time that chicago is in full tank mode. they were hoping he missed 2-3 games but now all he will miss is the 2/3 of training camp.

Am I insane for thinking Holloway has a bigger impact on this team than on the 4th line? He looked dominant to start the year with Wisconsin.

Perfetti is the highest scoring player from last year in the camp (111points), was OHL MVP runner up and his history of excellence with HC (U17's and Hlinka) I would think that would have to be more important than an average performance in two scrimmages after an 8 month lay off. Also, I think though he was not good in the first half of scrimmage one, he got better each period after that and was one of the red teams best players in game two, which you like to see after a long layoff. Line mates and chemistry also plays a huge part in a short camp and why some players may look better in such a short timeframe. I do think he needs to continue to be better in the coming scrimmages and he is not a lock but he is in the list of players likely to make it.. The locks up front in my opinion are: Dach, Cozens, McMichael, Byfield, Mercer. after that the likely to make it are: Krebs, Newhook,Perfetti, Tomasino, Holloway and them there 6-8 players vying for the last 4 spots.

My question is, Byfield was at best average in camp so far, his history with HC has been lacklustre (U17, Hlinka and WJC), but he gets the easy pass every time. So which is it? Is body of work important or not? Is camp performance the biggest factor? Is potential the biggest factor?
Personally, I wouldnt be surprised to see Perfetti cut or used as the extra foward... His bad skating and lack of size were pretty apparent in those scimmages, not sure how he fits on a team ran by André Tourigny, kid is highly skiled nobody doubting that, but he is prone to make lower % plays at times because of his skating\size limitations...

Lines for today
