I agree with most that i thought Rees played well enough to make it in the first two games but we have no idea how the other two went so can't be too upset.

Going to very curious to see what the lines start as, i'd try:

McMicheal - Cozens - Dach
Holloway - Newhook - Pelletier
Perfetti - Byfield - Mercer
Quinn - Krebs - Tomasino
Zary, Suzuki

Byram - Drysdale
Guhle - Barron
Harley - Schneider
Korczak, Spence

Levi
Gauthier
Garand

But you can't really go wrong on the lines with a roster like this! Super pumped for all the teams to get in the bubble and start preparing.

Team is looking stacked. Might have kept Rees around for some more sandpaper and speed myself but there's not much there not to like.

Have they declared a captain? Byram or Dach would be my guess.
I'm not familiar with Rees but sandpaper is overrated in this tournament since there's not much leniency from refs. Teams don't need a guy who takes penalties and hurts the team (e.g. Virtanen).

I'd probably put Holloway with Mercer and give them the center that fits best with two tougher players. Byfield is immensely talented but maybe a bit soft right now and might be better served with a finesse line? I think your defense projections make sense but might consider Harley and Schneider to be the second pair and Guhle Barron the third pair. It's a very impressive team.

I have very limited viewings of Rees but he seemed more controlled with his physicality compared to Virtanen. Rees is a honey badger and those guys can have good impacts on a team if they come out flat or just need a good energy shift to change momentum.

I was more sticking with the two lines that Bob specifically mentioned and was working around that, but theres still lots of camp left for guys to move around obviously. I really like Holloway - Newhook, so maybe put Mercer with them? That would be a tough line.

As far as lines go (2nd line, 2nd pairing etc.), the way i see it is we have a bonafide number one line with three potential second lines and a bonafide number one pairing with two second pairings. So how are they deployed will be largely determined by how a particular line is playing and what situation they find themselves in-game.

I know the forum guys from other countries go off when we get too full of ourselves, but nevertheless... I can’t go up and down that lineup without seeing it as hockey’s equivalent of murderer’ row. That fourth line has a guy that scored 52 last year , a guy that had a points/game of 1.58, and a guy that had a points/game of 1.61. That’s the FOURTH LINE! :D

Cossa imo is the best Canadian goalie in junior hockey and wasn’t given an invite to camp. The numbers speak for themselves.

Garand 2.21 GAA 0.921 save percentage 28-10-4 4 SO
Cossa 2.23 GAA 0.921 save percentage 21-6-2 4 SO

So how do you figure he is the best? He is a very good goalie no doubt. But there are also others that are on par.

Matter of opinion I guess.

As we've seen before in this tournament these kids' play swings a lot more on emotion than the professionals do. For a 10-12 minute role I like guys who can get in on the forecheck and mix it up in the corners and in front of the net to energize the bench.

This team is loaded.

Looking forward to seeing the wave after wave Canadian Way type of attack. Balanced roster up front, as usual any of the lines could be a number one line any given game. I have full confidence everyone will buy into their roles and go all out every single shift.

Even without Lafreniere that forward group is utterly ridiculous.

I’m expecting Byram and Drysdale to dominate from the puck and move the puck well.

Yeah that is insane depth, not to mention we had to cut several guys who deserve to be there. But still, short tournament with a majority of these guys not having played in months? Anything can happen.

Nice to see the roster. I agree with most regarding that Suzuki and Spence stand out among the selections. A few people had Spence pretty early on and he did look good in the two squad games that we saw. I'm more surprised that they went with 5 RHD. I imagine that the team as designs on four puck movers and four defencemen to cover for them, and Spence is one of those puck movers. I may be wrong however, especially if Drysdale and Byram stay paired up. Suzuki over Rees doesn't make sense to me in terms of fit or performance from what we saw. I don't see where Suzuki would play on the team, but regardless he's on the team and I hope that he puts up 20 points.

If this team doesn't show a lot of rust and gets decent goaltending then it should have good odds in this tournament. Big ifs but it will be interesting to watch. No more quibbling about the selections, only looking forward to seeing how the team plays and rooting for the win.

Suzuki and Byfield should be the 2 extras. Zary should be on one of the 4 lines.

I am not a CHI fan but did watch Dach in the bubble and he looked very good for a young player. I cannot see any other country stopping him. That alone might be enough to give CAN the win. Layer in the weird travel and quarantine and it's hard to see any other country showing up in force, even the US. I do want to see competitive games to make watching more fun. It will be interesting to see if SWE can pick itself up off the mat and show up or do they use the missing players and coaches as an excuse to mail it in.
