What does Tomasino need to do to get more ice time? I get Team Canada has a lot of talent and politics but anyone can serve other players’ penalties and ride the bench all game.

Start finishing his checks on the forecheck rather than the looping flyby stick check, he was one of the worst offenders for that last game.

Did get a nice goal though, but he, like many of our other forwards need to play a grittier type of Canadian Way style of hockey on the forecheck. The skill plays will open up following that.

Especially at this level where physical intimidation is very much part of the game and momentum swings.

Kid can score goals though, right now we need em, we aren't that dangerous so far.

These kids haven't skated for 2 weeks during their quarantine, nor played any games.

Back to back is hard and they won. Yet people still complain. :sarcasm:

No preseason, missed a couple dozen games and are just starting to get their game legs. They will improve on a day to day basis just like the other teams. Getting all the kinks worked out is ongoing and will improve each game. Time to play hard team hockey and let the coaches figure out what the best lines will be.

Byram in particular probably had his best game in a Canadian sweater. He was outstanding defensively.

Everyone has opinions and sees things differently, but let's just say I would not speak quite as glowingly about his performance thus far.

I really wonder what the score to the Germany game would have been if they were 100% (Germany).

The goaltending they received was honestly the worst I've ever witnessed I think.

This team is amazing on paper, but very little really appears to be clicking on the ice so far.

It’s been a bit weird.

A solid performance against Russia and then an (unfortunate) laugher against Germany. Slovakia was a wake up call.

You don't want a blow-out because it can lead to bad habits. Sometimes a loss in the round robin is far more useful.

Ultimately the tournament is about improving and progressing and I think they’ve stagnated over the past two games.

3-2 wins might the path to victory for Canada in this tournament against the top teams.

The strength of the team is the defence imo. They have the best top pair and Harley is emerging as a really good second pairing guy. Add guys like Barron/Guhle/Schneider who have flashed at times and I think that blueline can help drive this team moving forward.

I still like the forward group quite a bit, they just looked a little out of sync against Slovakia. Hopefully they can build more chemistry against Switzerland.

Tomasino should also be getting the opportunities and teammates that Quinn is getting. But this feels like another Steve spott and Ryan Murphy moment.

Quinn’s transition numbers look very good.
vs svk they are decent.. was his best game so far ; 3 controlled entries out of 8 attempts is not good... If you mean 2/3 controlled exits ... that's the only positive across the two games

vs germany obiously, tired, depleted, and weak no zone exits and 2 controlled entries out of 7 attempts is nothing to write home about

In terms of purely just last game, Byram was excellent. Especially defensively I thought, his gap control and physicality were very good.

The offence is never a question with Byram it’s his commitment to solid two way play and we saw that yesterday.

If he defends with the same rigour and commitment as he did last night, then he’ll do very well as a pro.

Limited icetime for Tomasino . I would not point to him for the lack of physicality on the forecheck or finishing checks .. He's been spotted pretty sparingly and certainly making more of his icetime than most. The 4th line playing with Zary and Mercer .. has been very effective; and their effort level has been good. We need more out of the top 9. Zary has no points but he's been noticeable in a good way imo.

Hmmm... those numbers would indicate we should all be keeping a closer eye on Oskar Olausson.

There are many players on this team that are contributing or are capable of contributing if given ice time. If there are players not doing enough (perhaps Byfield) they need to be move down the lineup.
It is a short tournament. Can't give players too much rope. There isn't time for that.
