no he didn’t. And yes it is lol worthy. So is your comment that he outplayed the other two drafted a head of him.

He had the same amount of points as Kakko, though better advanced stats. He had 2 more points than Hughes all while playing with a better forward group and in 5 more games. That’s not exactly out playing them. Dach is going to be good, but already declaring he’s the best forward in the draft when he produced the same amount as Kakko and only put up 2 more points than hughes in 5 more is hilarious. It’s as bad as calling players a bust after their first season.

That said, he’s going to be a damn good player and could very well be the best forward in this tournament.
But the fact he is as good and drafted 2 picks later and didn’t get the same hype is still impressive. Better to be the guy who just goes out there and does his job. Whether it’s hard work that he can build on or something else.
Also probably easier to coach and work without the ego that comes with hype.

Also who are these better Blackhawks other than Toews and Kane. I’d think Kakko has the best teammates to work with as that New York team has lots of weapons.

Definitely looking forward to it. Even in lockout years there wasn't this dearth of hockey. Looking forward to Germany-Finland after the Christmas food is put away. The exhibitions against Sweden and Russia should be particularly good viewing as well.

Agreed, these exhibition games take on completely new meaning and importance. Especially for the goaltenders given the large
amount of time off between games.

As good as this team appears to be, I think some of you need to rein in your expectations. The majority of players on this team have yet to even play a game this year while the Europeans have.
It will be a factor , but they should be ok

Let's leave the guess work out of this. Also, let's keep the seasons of Dach, Kakko, and Hughes in perspective. All three guys (the first three picks) had very similar seasons. Nothing special. In fact, I think it's safe to say all three were relative disappointments. Dach did trend up as the season went on and looked good in the playoffs but overall his season wasn't great. He's got a lot of potential, but so do the other two.

But was the 3rd pick so played as well as guys picked before.
And nope I’m choosing to keep guess work in.

Doesn't mean much.

Duchene (3rd overall) had identical production to Tavares (1st overall) for their first two years but that didn't mean too much after that. The guy at 2nd overall "struggled" a bit as well for a few seasons but he turned out pretty good.

This is a key point. Some Swedish fans are upset about losing a top 6 Center, but most Canadian players have missed the whole season to date, and then on top of that had two weeks of their WJC training camp taken away from them, rendering the on-ice portion of their camp shorter than that of other countries...other countries who have been playing hockey since September.

Canada is at a disadvantage here but hopefully they will be able to overcome it.

And their best forward in the SHL this season, who is now back playing in the SHL

Considering Zuke has an eye injury that is left him blind in the centre of his one eye. Could you imagine how good he would be if he didn't have that injury?!

He is a heck of a player being able to learn to adapt to play at a high level with that injury.
For sure it is a hindrance to his full potential being reached I would imagine. His bread and butter being his vision and play making abilities too. But he’s a very smart player and just is responsible in all areas of the ice. I think he’ll be even better than his brother Nick in a few years

Please, its mostly just that one crybaby with his stupid thread.

Do you think Holloway can be like this years Foudy for us? Just skating well every game and first on the puck a lot, so good at extending plays and using his speed to create chances. Holloway isn’t as fast, but he’s no slouch. Also more physical and harder on the puck than Foudy, but Liam was such a key for Canada last year.

Definitely.

Holloway is a very good two way player and murders D men on the forecheck. He’s also good on the face off dot as he plays centre at Wisconsin. Can play up and down the lineup.

He’s not the best stick handler if there’s a knock to his game, but he’s got Newhook as a centre who is an excellent stick handler and should be the main puck carrier on that line. However, given everything else Holloway does well he’ll play a major role. He just hounds the puck relentlessly and backchecks with full effort every shift.

Holloway is kind of the definition of the kind of player and forechecker “Wave after wave attack” that Canada has always used when successful internationally. Indeed, it’s obvious when you see a team playing the a Canadian Way. Very strong on the boards and on the cycle at both ends of the ice.

Really, I like all of these lines up front. I’m expecting the Dach-Cozens line to be the #1 unit, but I think Holloway-Newhook-Pelletier will play big minutes given the versatility and gumption that line has. They’ll hem teams in and wear down D men on the forecheck and cycle.

Sure, and Canada’s best forward is in the NHL, and therefore unavailable.

That's a different thing imo though. Sweden has lost players to the NHL in the past too and everyone has accepted it. In the particular case of Eklund one of several tests returned positive, and therefore he couldn't join. I think most of us has accepted it but still find it ridiculous that someone who has had it, but now is healthy and has returned to play in the SHL can't play in a tournament that still is 2 weeks away. Henriksson, Wallinder etc who caught it later everyone understand why they can't play

Sorry, not gonna post more about team Sweden in this thread, when I responded to the first post I thought it was the Swedish thread, but realised just after posting that it wasn't

Well said. My thoughts exactly.

I HOPE we get some kind of "scare" in the Round Robin. Some adversity. Some challenge. It really helps.
I think a reality check would be good too, which I think both the team and some fans here are going to need. On paper this is a real good team but everyone should know by now the margin of victory is smaller then ever.

Team Canada fans should not be getting fooled by name power and Craig Button in 2020.

Just wait, if Canada looks bad in one of the exhibition games or the goaltending looks shaky in one of them things will turn very fast from how incredibly strong this team looks to how hopeless the situation is. That's the nature of things every year but this year we have so little information that it's bound to be even more erratic than usual.

Junior hockey is wonderfully erratic at the best of times. It’s even moreso now without the early season play.

We’re basically going in blind.
