Comets playing the same way as they have been playing for a month. Get a lead and then get skated into the ice in their own zone surrendering chance after chance, can't get anything going the other way, blow breakaways, get penalized, and give up a goal or else give one up as the result of the PP even though it's over. This one was on the PP.

Comets now being outshot 23 -16 early in the 3rd.

Fuss around and struggle to maintain the puck and it's down the ice.
Come back and can't get in, back down.
More struggling on the boards.

Holtz scores, but the goalie had lost his mask and the ref was blowing the whistle.

Comets playing their typical own zone d. 5 guys down low standing around and waiting for the opponent to do something. Are you kidding me Dineen. This is not a defensive scheme that will win games.
Comets make 1 pass. the recipient skates up the ice, crosses the blueline, shoots and the Monsters bring it back up.
Comets 1 and done with 0 offensive IQ.

Gambardella a good stop as Gambardells grabbed a turnover and crossed in front and threw it at the net as he ran out good scoring space.
Wotherspoon stopped on a point slapper. Comets had guys in front, but they were tied up and pushed aside. Johnson had no trouble seeing it and gloved it for a whistle.

Thompson from his lw boards sends the puck cross ice and it's picked and the guy walks in and scores. That was just pure braindead.
Comets players categorically refuse to shoot the puck out of their own zone . They MUST carry it or pass it to a mate. Result is turnover after turnover in their own zone all game long and it eventually bites them in the ass.

changes.
Now Thompson does the same thing and the Monsters come back and score.
4-3 Monsters.
IMO, and I hope to God I am wrong, the Comets season is as close to done as the Monsters who won't even make the playoffs.
This game was a pitiful performance in so many ways. I get the feeling that Dineen has never torn into these guys because they make the same mistakes over and over and over and over with no apparent idea they are the wrong things to do since the game was invented.

Oh and, Zetterlund, Greer, and Bahl are not the quick fix to the way these guys are playing.
They have been out front since day 1 and it's like they don't have an ounce of intensity in their bodies. There is no on/off switch that brings you back to high level intensity, quick reactions, and smart play. It's completely gone on this team.
There OT play was a perfect example. It's been terrible all season. Normally a team tries to get into the zone on an uneven break. If it\'s not there, set up in the opposition's zone and works to try to get a 2 on 1 vs one of the opposition and score off the 2 on 1 pass or the puck carrier gets in so close he can wire it home. The Comets game is to take the puck by yourself, beat everyone, and score, but if you get cut off make a dumb pass and turn it over instead of passing it back and starting over.
The Comets do not set up and MOVE around the offensive zone passing it back and forth to create a break. They never take it back out of the zone switch up and bring it back in. It appears Dineen and Company have never worked on this at all either. This was their 8th OT loss. You would think a team with kind of puck skills, shots, and skating they are said to possess OT would play right into their hands.

Comets division title clinching magic title is two.
Conference clinching number is six.
Mitens is injured day to day, so I expect Schmid to start again tomorrow night unless Daws is on his way to Cleveland.
